You guys and gals who spelunk - is there a process to gain access to the new opening made by the sink hole at the museum for you?

Also, would a spelunker be asked to find the other two cars - should they not be uncovered in the top portion of the hole?

I would think a camera on a cable would be safer, but it would be a kicker for a spelunker to explore new territory if allowed right? :popcorns:

The early pics from the quadrotor showed what looked like a typical cave passage in the lower part of the hole, with the "roof" missing. That would be in line with how these sink holes form. It is fun to think about being the first person to go into such a place but as others have said it is not safe. I would be surprised if any cavers would be asked to lend assistance with the recovery. They will use pros that are insured.

With a couple of safety lines ready to yank you out at any sign of trouble.....I'd probably give it a whirl. Wonder if I'd get to keep what I find? Like a giant version of the circus game with the little excavator bucket. :D

Will all the cars be recovered or have officials decided to write some of them off due to risk of injurty/death to recovery workers?

Current plans are to recover all the cars. (Granted no one knows yet where two of them are located in the hole.) Stabilizing the spire and remaining floor are the current objectives. It will be April or May before that process is completed. :cheers:
