It's barely March, but one Long Island man may have already sealed his title as Uncle of the Year.

Jay Venini, who lives in Northport, N.Y., seized the day in early February after multiple snow storms left his yard covered in snow. He decided to make the best of it and build a luge for his nieces, nephews and the neighborhood kids.

“I had an idea to build a snow luge so that the youngsters in my family could have a fun place to go and play in the snow,” he told TODAY.com.

He built what he named the "Looney Luge" within a week with help from a friend, snow shovels, water and paint made from Kool-Aid. He even equipped the track with LED lights placed down the center of the ice for nighttime fun.

Sure enough, the kids came running. Venini said he had a steady stream of 10 children ready to ride the Looney Luge, and he strapped his GoPro camera throughout his yard to share the fun with friends and family.

With less snow falling in Long Island, all that remains from the luge is its base. But Venini promises that with more snow, or a little help from a snow-making machine, the Looney Luge will come back bigger and better than ever.

“The next one will have a snow tunnel on the track.”

We have no children but are often referred to as the crazy aunt & uncle who take our nieces on ski trips etc that their parents don't want to do.

Sweet! Uncle is doing way more than he intended. Getting the kids outside, giving them something cool to do and talk about with friends, and associating them with other kids will be life lessons for these kids. Getting them out from in front of the tv or whatever other technology, is always a good thing! Good on him!
