I have a bud who was fortunate enough to be in Daytona last weekend with pit passes and hospitality for the Shootout. I asked him to pick me up a Daytona 500 hat while he was there. I got an awesome looking white thing emblazoned with the Daytona logo, flag striping in red/blue and stars all over; and a wee tiny embroidered American flag adorning the adjustment band. Very natty and patriotic as hell. Until I looked at the tag inside to see the word "100 percent cotton One size fits most MADE IN CHINA".
I cannot describe how disappointed I am that a souvenier of the quintessential American race series should be manufactured in the PRC. You suck.

Are you Rip Van Winkle?
Look at everything in your house and driveway.
Why single out NASCAR?
There isn't a check too big they won't cash.

I have lived in the deep South long enough to aquire a profound appreciation for the roots and history of the Nascar organization, and its largest and most sucessful progeny the current Sprint Cup. It is indeed a peculiarly American invention and is aggressively marketed as such. It chaps my behind to see that even so storied an organization as this might stoop so low as to shill off shore crap to their fans. Besides, for $22.00 I would hope they might find an American manufacturer to support (and still make a decent profit of course).

Toyota builds cars here. They are more "American" than some GM vehicles which are manufactured or asembled in "local" areas like Mexico and Canada.......

Ya, I agree and it sucks, but it is apparently the American corporate way, and has been since the '80's.
Once Winston left the game, it was game over.

Not a decent profit, an obscene profit.

OK so the Toyota profits go home, but they employ American workers, pay them a living (non union) wage, source what they can here which helps our economy as well, pay taxes here and when they decided to go racing here they developed a complete, blank sheet engine to do so since they (to my knowledge) never manufactured a pushrod V8 in the past. They have proven that American workers can still build a world class product here and do it without government subsidy or oversight. Which is a damn sight more than GM or Chrysler can say.

So support foreign racing to protest foreign goods at an American race in a global economy.
Just wondering if the OP is posting from his American made computer, pad, or smart phone? :island14:

You guys are a tough crowd! Thomas... I was a fan of Nascar and still loosely follow the series (I think Jimmie Johnson/Chad Knaus are the greatest pairing ever) but I don't watch many races anymore.
NeedSpeed... I don't intend to support Aussie racing in that I will not go to the races or purchase souveniers... the races are pure entertainment for me; like watching old movies or BSing with people on a forum.
Lars... Does anyone even build consumer electronics here anymore???

So you're mad that the American racing series NASCAR buys hats from a company who has them made in China, so to show you are outraged at their non-American production, you're going to watch a racing series in Australia?
Ok.
