My BIL retired as XO at Kings Bay even though he had spent most of his career on attack subs rather than boomers. I was able to board several boats over the years (always under very controlled circumstances). Nothing but respect for those guys :seasix:
I did seven years on Tridents (Ohio class), in the engine rooms, and three more fixing them in the yards. The vid was good, there was some stuff that was wrong, and some stuff I thought would still be classified.
The notion that the food was top notch is crap; the meat we got was below prison grade; fact. I'd forgotten that the O2 generators got named...they were down being maintained or repaired more than they were up. Some of the other specs were wrong. It looks like the mechanics of the water tight hatches has changed.
One thing that made an impression on me when I first reported to the Florida: A warship is a sovereign nation when it gets underway, a Trident is (was) the fifth most powerful nation in the world when it got underway (tied with other Tridents), think about that for a sec...
Disclaimer: I can neither confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons aboard a US Naval ship...etc...

Hmmmm...
A tad more spacious than Carbonero. (SS337)
Balao class.
FWIW: I can attest to the food we had was NOT prison fare.

I did QA supervision for the LA class boats that came in when I was at the shipyard, I would NOT want to live like that, and they were a ton more spacious than the old diesels.
As for the food, I remember the cooks running out of sloppy joe mix half way through a meal, so the started serving us spaghetti sauce...like we wouldn't notice.
Saturday was pizza night. One time I got a slice and I thought, interesting that they put blue cheese on the pizza. It was actually moldy mozzarella the cook decided to use anyway. "Go somewhere else if you don't like it" was what I was told.
