Assuming the payoff is large enough...

I'd first set aside several million in savings. One part invested for income, and the other invested for retirement.

Then I'd purchase three homes. One would have to stay near D.C. for various reasons. Of the other two one would be somewhere warm (San Diego, Colombia, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, etc.) and the other would be central to Europe, probably in or near Vienna.

The rest would go to about 10 land vehicles and sailboat or two. Nothing ridiculous. No more than a 46 footer.

If I won a ridiculous sum, I'd like to take a couple close friends to BJ or Mecum, and tell them to bid on whatever they want. Then Truck them all home and have a freakin' blast. I'd love to see the looks on their face, and spread the joy.

So I won the lottery and will be trading up my house and cars, but it won't change me as a person as I plan an early retirement and buy gifts for people with few strings attached so I hope they still love me for who I am and realize I'm not bragging but still appreciate what I'm doing for them . . .
