View Full Version : [BR IV] Donations for 50/50 prizes...
NEED-A-VETTE

I posted up about this in the previous Barn Raising thread, but it's slightly buried.
In order to make the 50/50 more lucrative, I'm asking that everyone (that is able) bring or send something to donate as a prize.
Doesn't have to be anything extravagant and we can combine a few things together as one prize. Ideally, it would be something specific to where you are from. For example, I'll be bringing some bottles of California wines and some boxes of hand-made, gourmet chocolates from a local chocolatier (http://compartes.com/).
Again, don't jump out the window on expense, but we'd like to have a wide variety of prizes, to increase the money raised for the NCM. (Anyone not going, that would still like to donate a prize, they can be sent to the Hampton to be held, a few weeks before BR. PM me for the details.)
Here is what I have so far...
Four bottles of various California wines - NAV
A few boxes of local chocolates - NAV
Batch of sorghum cookies - Dixie
Bottle of Texas Whiskey - jda67gta
Candy/chocolate basket from a great local confectionary - Black94lt1
Several rings made from coins, (quantity, type, and sizing still being worked on) - DAB
Handmade jewelry - Beadist
Anything fun or creative is welcome. It DOES NOT have to be expensive or extravagant.

I'm ignorant. How does 50/50 work? I assume NCM gets 50%. Who gets the other 50%? Donor or VB?

The person with the winning ticket gets the other 50%.
People buy tickets. The money goes in a jar. The prizes are brought out. The first several drawings of tickets are for the actual donated prizes. Once all of the prizes are given out, the final drawing is for the cash prize.
Therefore, as you can probably guess, the more prizes that are donated, the more interest there will buying the tickets. The more tickets sold, the more money raised for the NCM (and the final ticket drawn/winner).

you sell tickets, for cash. winner gets 50% of the pot, museum gets the other. other tickets are then drawn for other prizes, such as ones donated above. the more prizes, the better your chances of going home with something other than lint in your pocket.
i bet if you asked nicely, you could even buy a ticket without going to BRIV.

This has been discussed for this year's drawing. It's a likelihood. We just need to figure out the logistics and feasibility.

The NCM IT Department is building the registration page. I will put up a sticky as soon as I get word that it's up. They usually shoot me an email as soon as it's ready.
