The local weather keeps mentioning Jackson. Y'all iced or snowed in this morning? It's 23 here and windchill 11! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

We are iced in but good! I live about 15 miles North of Jackson, and I'm on the very edge of the ice and snow, which gets worse much worse the further South you go. Although my driveway looks driveable, the TV reports say to stay off the roads even if you're headed North. There's supposed to be another round of sleet and snow around noon today.
It's 22 degress here right now, supposed to get down to around 15 tonight. I got up at six and turned on the heat in the workshop for the kitties. Every one of them is gathered around the heater. The workshop is very well insulated and maintains heat well. I'll try to post a pic later, but Tank got too close to the heater and singed a 2" circle of hair. Since cat hair is self-extinguishing, no harm was done to him.
Are you iced in, too?

Nothing here thank goodness. I think it's south of us. The county just south of us, about 5 miles from me, just announced they are dismissing schools now.
I hope y'all don't lose power!
We got it about 30 minutes after I posted this!

Ho lee crap! It got us too. Dismissed schools at 12:30pm today. Took some parents 2-3 hours to get to the school. My 9 minute drive home took 45 minutes. I drove on ice for the first time ever! No school tomorrow.
23* here. The forecast was 36* for today. The weatherman boogered up this forcast!

They sure did and I knew North Central Alabama was going to get hit. The were focusing on a vapor mass in south Texas and they rightfully predicted that would hit south alabama. What they did not take into consideration was that there was another vapor mass in Oklahoma and I watched it beginning to merge with the one in the south.
Birmingham is a mess. thousand of motorist trying to get home abandoned their cars to walk home or go to a shelter set up by businesses and churches and school. I live in the mountains so I will be lucky to get out thursday.
It is hard to make out but this is the first snow our little dog has seen snow.

Somebody said they hoped Spann was on suicide watch. He seemed really upset. I drove/slid past several cars that had ran off the road. Two of our student teachers that carpool together spun out and wrecked. We were preparing to have to spend the night at school. I know that some schools in B'ham will have students for the night tonight.

Yeah. a friend of ours is having to spend the night at her school. I cannot think of a worse place to stay overnight with the exception of hell itself.

Two things you learn quick about driving in slippery conditions....If you think you're going slow enough, SLOW DOWN, you're going too fast, and leave 2 or 3 times the space you normally would to the car in front.
Secondly, you should be checking HOW slippery it is by trying your brakes lightly to see if you can stop, same for steering. :seasix:
We learn all that in grade school! :D
Seriously...take your car to an empty parking lot and throw it around a little to see how it reacts. It's fun. That's how they teach winter driving up here. :yesnod:

Having a birthday in January, I got my learner's permit in the middle of winter. My dad made sure he took me to a big empty parking lot and had me hit the brakes a couple of times in the snow so I learned right away about driving in winter wonderlands

I DO hope that example server you ALL well, listen UP folks....there is a condition known as BLACK ICE, where the road surface is frozen deep enough to cause any rain/snow/mist to instantly freeze in the road surface, and so the road looks WET,!!!!
BUTTTTTTT!!! it is really a road of slick ice that would do a skater proud......
your vehicle has NO chance......all you all down south here not familiar...take HEED folks....that shit is NOT to be overlooked!!!!!
