Is a cannibal rat-packed ghost ship headed for land?

Abandoned ocean liner lost at sea for nearly a year

UPDATED 9:18 AM EST Jan 24, 2014

A ghost ship possibly filled with disease-ridden rats is adrift in the Atlantic Ocean and may be heading for landfall on the coast of Britain.

The Independent reports that the Lyubov Orlova is an abandoned ocean liner that was being towed to the Dominican Republic for salvage in Feb. 2013 when the tow line broke, setting it adrift into the Atlantic without a crew or a tracking beacon.

Nobody has seen it since. Maritime law allows salvage hunters to claim abandoned ships if they can hunt them down, but nobody can find the potentially rat-infested Lyubov Orlova.

One salvager reported that there are likely "a lot of rats" onboard and that they would likely be diseased and eating each other for survival.

Several reports speculate that storms could drive the Lyubov Orlova toward the English, Scottish or Irish coast. However, the BBC quotes representatives of the Irish and British coast guards as saying they have set to see any sign that the ship is heading their way.

Could any rats still be alive after a year?

Could any rats still be alive after a year?

Likely. They are a hearty, robust species of rodent.

Why wouldn't they just go sink it as a fighter jet exercise

Martime law/international water regulations perhaps? :confused5:

They can't find it.

It's a ship, not a ****ing row boat. With today's satellite technology how hard could it be

If no one has seen this vessel in a year why the phuck do they think it’s still afloat? Lots of bad weather over that time and obviously it’s not in that great of condition. No maintaince being done and salt water is super corrosive, no one to steer it to mitigate the effects of nasty waves.

Best bet it has joined Osama at the bottom of Davie Jones locker. :kimblair:

It's way too valuable in scrap to scuttle on purpose.

I'm sure if that happened, the rats on board would start paddling back to sea. :seasix:

Disagree... A shipload of diseased rats has the potential of being FAR more costly if it makes landfall. Anywhere.

Find it and sink it. If near ANY land, tow it to deep water. Any surviving rats can be finished by shooting. Large numbers will succumb to concussion grenades.
