I guess they still have not recovered from the earthquake down there? :island14:
We have not had power since the Typhoon, they shut it off the night before on the 7th of November.
I have no idea when it will be fixed but am guessing no time soon.

No. Was up working on my "book"
I have been writing about my trip and so far made it through the first week and have about 20 pages written. Once I edit and add in pics I may have about 50-60 pages.

Book? :island14:
Book? :island14:
Yes, I thought it would just be another blog entry - but it keeps growing and feels more like a book now. It will not be a real book, but by the way it keeps growing - it just feels like I am writing a book. It is a day by day account of the trip. It is fun going through my notes and writing down the whole story.
I have a friend that is an editor and she is going to look over it next before I post it.
It ill be shared over here so everyone can read the story.

How about this one "A throng of bearded men, in sad-colored garments and gray, steeple-crowned hats, intermixed with women, some wearing hoods, and others bareheaded, was assembled in front of a wooden edifice, the door of which was heavily timbered with oak, and studded with iron spikes."

I like this - I have been reading more than I watch TV now days. I guess that is what has been inspiring me to sit and write at night. It is amazing how easy the words low when you get in a groove - it is all setting your mind in the right frame to allow it the pour out onto paper.
Reading is similar - a good book is something that it almost seems impossible to set don once you become engrossed in the story and develop a relationship with a character in the book. The mind is a powerful thing and so much more fun than watching a movie - the creativity of the mind and how it depicts the images of what I read is what I find interesting.
What can you tell me about Huraki Murakami? What types of books are these

Like I said earlier....I use the term "book" loosely - it just feels like it because I cannot seem to find an end to the things I learned and observed over there.
The more I write about it - the more my mind opens up about the observations and I seem to be able to process them more clearly into a formidable understanding of the culture.
The Rummies
Because The Rum Diary was already taken
Believe it or not - I only drank the rhum maybe twice when over there - that stuff will kill you. I drank a couple of beers as well but I never got drunk the whole trip over there. And let me state - the peer pressure was there - and not just from island14 - but also from his father in law as well as EVERY neighbor - those are some serious Tanduay soldiers over there

His books are a combination of surrealism and real life narratives. When I first heard about him I thought "I hate shit like that." But he does it in such a way that it doesn't come off as all purple unicorns. The story lines make sense and the surrealism is VERY subtle. He doesn't hit you over the head with it which is why it's so believable.
Norwegian Wood was the first book of his I read and a pretty straight forward story. It's fairly short, but it kinda get's you accustomed to his writing style. HIGHLY recommended.
I (And everyone else I suppose) judge book on how long the characters stay with you after you're finished reading it. His do. You cart these people around with you long after the book is closed.

Then the movie came out.... I carted that shit around for years.

I still remember reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when I was little and was creeped out on how dark the story was - It was not until the Johnny Depp version of the movie that they actually captured some of the darkness that I remembered from the book as compared to Willy Wonka version of the movie

I thought that Gene Wilder captured it beautifully, albeit, with a little sarcastic, comical edge to the darkness of his character.
I get sarcastic and dark though, so that's how I perceived the original one.

I read probably 20 books for every movie I watch, seriously. I have something like 250 books in my Kindle app that I've read since I started reading Kindle books about 4 or 5 years ago. Average about one every week or so, depending.
Once I find an author I like, I'll read pretty much everything they have within reason. Amazon reviews are quite helpful in finding new authors.

I tend to do the same. But never consecutively. Maybe two books, then on to someone else for a bit.
I started reading Kindle books about 4 or 5 years ago.
I do 90% of my reading on my iPad these days. It's really the way to go IMHO.
