A brother's GF had one in the 90s. Her kids painted it black (originally orange) with spray cans. Around that same time he had a buddy selling one but wouldn't let me test drive it. Told me pay him then I could try starting it. I said bye...

I bought the ex a '73 Opel Manta Luxus back in the early '80's. Didn't know until a couple of years ago it was something called a "Blue Max" Limited Edition. Automatic, air, mechanical sunroof, dark blue vinyl top, and Rally wheels with trim rings. Rare and pricey today. It was a fun little car to drive. Great mpg's and would even spin the tires with the at!
Wasn't the Datsun the forerunner of the Chevette?

A Manta. :seasix:
Had one ordered in '73. Car got delayed, wound up with a 2002 instead. All's well that ends well.

:seasix: Cool car. The BMW was a more popular car, I think. Just starting to be well known around that time. In 76 GM cut German ties and sold an Isuzu under the Opel name. Junk for sure. :cert:

Nope- base 2002 with a Sunroof. Malaga with black cloth (Euro spec car, picked it up in Munich). About $3600 back then- just a few hundred more than the Manta I didn't get.

The dollar was in crash-and-burn mode back then, as I recall. I did not buy another 2002 in '76- the price had gone over $6000 stateside by then. (Think about that- almost double in three years) Opel's got too expensive for GM to import, so they went the cheaper (Izuzu) route.

Met a guy here locally that has a '73 2002tii he bought new. Fjord Blue, over 200,000 miles on it. Looks and runs like it did the day it was new.

Although if you could take that body and put it on a Miata chassis, that would be some fun.

Have battled with a few of those ITB 2002's. Always nice guys who own/drive them.
