View Full Version : [Jewelry Making] Ring give away
from my other thread, you may have followed my first attempts at making a ring from a coin. http://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/off-topic/61278-jewelry-making.html
well, the ones i made were trial horses so to speak, both too small for me to wear, and Mrs. DAB isn't a big ring wearer (i haven't check with the dog yet, pretty sure she will pass).
so here's an early Valentine's Day giveaway:
http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0747_zpsb898869b.jpg
tell me why you would like these rings. best story takes them. would it improve your happiness, the happiness of someone near and dear to you, would you trade them for something better to you? what? why?
no cost, no obligation.
entries accepted for 7 days, so lets close this out next friday, January 17, midnight MST.
ring on left is a 1985 half dollar, size is 12-3/4, ring on right is a 1976 quarter, size is 9. sorry, no resizing possible at this point. they are both nickel/copper alloys, so if the wearer has a Nickel allergy, this isn't for them.

Very generous offer, Douglas. :thumbs::thumbs:

Nice move, enjoyed your other thread :seasix:
Those are really cool rings Doug. I graduated from HS in 1976. My class ring a wore quite alot because I really liked the weight of it. In 1988 or home was broken into and my class ring was one of the things that was never recoved. I do have thin fingers and wear a size 9 ring. I'd really like to have that 1976 quarter ring. It would make me feel really good to have something that so one off and the year doesn't hurt at all. :yesnod:

I always wanted to block bullets like Wonder Woman does.
The big ring could just be the ticket...
Being able to block bullets with my middle finger, and give the shooter the finger at the same time would really be cool.:seasix:

I'd love to have the quarter one for my girlfriend but she's so cheap she'll never wear it knowing a quarter was killed in its construction. Such is.

I'm still trying to figure out how you got the bullet to pass so exactly through the center... I can usually only hit the rim at 100 yards..........

Give 'em to me.
I can't have children. I'm sterile. :sadangel:
But one day, I will meet the woman who will make an honest man out of me. When that day comes, I will wed her with these two rings made from another honest man and given to us straight from the heart.

Exercise and increased calorie intake should swell your fingers big enough to wear the ring. So, go ahead, have that 3rd piece of pie.

I would like the larger one for my 17 year old son with Down syndrome. He would really get a kick out of it and he would cherish it knowing it was made by one of his dads friends on the internet from another state and there's not another one like it.
It would also go good with his collection of stamped pennies from different places around the country i always got him during my travels.
This is gonna be tough.
Might have to make a few more this weekend. :DAB:

I'll gladly pay for a couple of them.
Me too.
How much you won't ferrum, Doug?
:toetap:
You can buy these online from others.
When this contest is done, I'll address the $$ questions via PMs.
M'kay?
I'm doing this as a fun winter project, as it's too cold to work in the wood shop.
Getting quarters is easy. Finding half dollars is harder. Have a few in my stash. But not many.

Give me the ring(s) and you won't even have to ship them to me. I will put them up for auction here to raise money for a fund for Island14 to get a bigger TV for showing movies to the neighborhood. You can ship it/them directly to the winner of the auction.:seasix:

i can make more (just did a CT quarter, ended up size 10). let's let this play out how i intended, then we can discuss fund raising. i just wanted to make someone's day who may not have the $$ presently to put a smile on someone's face.
i also have a mess of foreign coins that i can play with.
looks like a quarter is best of size 8 to about 10, any smaller and they are too conical shaped. half dollars go to about size 13 or so.

Took you two days to eat a piece of cake? You're doing it wrong.

May I please be included if I can get my correct ring size? I have some Alabama quarters and some other coins that may work for you?
would it be easier to do a thread?
i'll go thru this thread and Norm's thread and send out a PM this weekend with details.
to answer, if you have a "special" coin you want made into a ring (just not one licked by the kids on the short bus....or Knooger), yeah, you can send it and i'll turn it around. that's what i did for Norm. he had a 1966 half dollar (40% silver) that was special to him.
fair warning: i'm still getting a handle on controlling size, but learning a lot today, so if you want a specific size, i'll do the best i can, but it may vary by 1/2 size.
:willy:
guess i could post a step by step thread...hmmm....
one day to go..... :ohnoes:
I looked up the process on YouTube and, while I'd love to give this a try I'm currently lacking the time, space and tools. :D
I posted a link in another thread.

that's all i've found going thru the threads, if i missed someone, please speak up and i'll include.
this might keep me out of trouble for a bit. :smash:
i think LisaJohn had a Q about drilling 2 holes in a ring and threading a chain thru it to make a necklace. yes, that could be done. if you have a chain, send it, if not, i'll have to guess on hole sizes. or go dig up a chain somewhere (walmart? ugh). be easier if you sent one you liked. i'll send it back. promise.

I wouldn't mind having one if I can afford it! Dunno what size though, haven't worn any ring in such a long time!
