An Oregon woman is being held on a $50,000 bond for allegedly leaving methamphetamine as a tip to a waitress at an upscale, tourist-friendly restaurant.

Erica Manley, 37, was arrested with her boyfriend, Ryan Bensen, 40, last Friday night after a waitress at the Twisted Fish Steakhouse in Seaside, Ore., said she found crystal-like rocks tucked behind a gift card and sealed in an envelope with a question mark on it, according to a news release from the Seaside Sheriff’s Department.

The manager of the Twisted Fish confirmed the incident to ABC News but would not comment further.

Police later determined that the suspect rocks were four doses of methamphetamine, and arrested the couple outside the Twisted Fish, the Seaside chief of police and Clatsop County district attorney told ABC News.

According to a news release from the Seaside Sheriff’s Department, police then searched through the couple’s hotel room and car where they found a blow torch, batteries and hand-warmers, common drug paraphernalia that police said could be used to manufacture the dangerous drug.

Officials said they also found nearly 20 grams of methamphetamine in Manley’s purse, worth about $1,500.

Manley is expected to appear this week before a grand jury, where it is expected she will be formally charged with unlawful manufacture, and possession and delivery of methamphetamine, according to the district attorney.

Bensen has since been released from jail, and authorities said he would face no charges. All efforts by ABC News to reach Bensen proved unsuccessful.

Manley’s defense attorney, Chris Kaino, did not respond to messages left by ABC News requesting comment.

When I think "upscale" and "tourist," those two are exactly who come to mind. :yesnod:

Interesting... the version I read yesterday said cops found "17 ounces" of meth in her purse, and a "meth lab" in their hotel room... that's quite a difference!

After dinner and drinks Thursday at a steakhouse in Seaside, Ore., a cash-light couple tried to tip their server with some of what they'd been cooking—crystal meth. After paying their tab with a gift card, the pair handed the waitress an envelope marked with a question mark containing a stash of the drug. "She was like 'Whoa—what the …?'" the restaurant's manager tells the Oregonian. "We’re not a little dive bar or hole in the wall. We’re a classy place."

The waitress called police, who arrived to find the couple still at the steakhouse, and discovered 17 ounces of the drug in the woman's purse. After obtaining a search warrant, cops found a meth lab in the couple's room at the Holiday Inn. "While I should be shocked and surprised, it’s just another example of how dumb these users and dealers are," the local police chief says. "The whole thing almost made me chuckle."

"I'm not Walter White, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night."

20 grams vs. 17 ounces.
Yeah, that would make a difference.
Would 17 ounces even fit in a women's purse? (I honestly have no idea.)

And if a meth lab consists of "a blow torch, batteries and hand-warmers," then there are a lot of people in this world risking arrest.

That's chicken shit on the part of the waitress. Once she figured out what was with the gift card, she could have just thrown it away if she didn't want it. I'm sure she used the gift card....nothing wrong with that.

This is one of those "try to do something nice for someone and get shit on" things. I'd stiff that waitress if I ate there. I'd be afraid of what she would do if she didn't like my tip.

Minor quibble:

After paying their tab with a gift card, the pair handed the waitress an envelope marked with a question mark containing a stash of the drug.

^from Apex's post quoting a different article.

Seems they paid the tab with a gift card and tipped with the drugs.
I do sort of wonder if the waitress was upset that they gave her drugs or if she was upset because they didn't give her enough.

She was pissed she had to share it with the other wait staff and it wasn't enough for her.
