Ive been wanting some M/T tires for my Diesel since I got it, but damn...even cheap shit tires go for 750+ a set, so I started trolling CL and finally found a decent deal. Guy had a set of 4 Firestone Destination M/T's in the LT285/70R17 size I wanted, for 270 for the set. They are discontinued, but when you find em, they sell new for $302.00 each.
2 Have virtually no wear at all, no damage, no plugs, I got right at 20/32" on them. The other 2 have more wear, about 12/32" remaining, and one has a professionally installed inside plug, dead center on the tire, in a lug. No uneven wear or cupping, sidewalls are perfect, no lug damage, and the beads are perfect.
Im trying to upload some pics now before I go leave to have them mounted. NO MORE SNOW TIRES FOR ME:hurray:

"Since it's pinned for studs, the Destination M/T is also ready to deliver extra grip in winter conditions."
So, you plan on installing studs?

:barnbabe: My bad. I read where he said no more snow tires and made a bad assumption.
Of course, that raises other questions but . . . oh hell, it's Red.

This thread actually comes at a good time. I wasn't even considering these, thinking they were only go for offroad. Driver's reviews on Tire Rack state otherwise, and they sound like a good tire for the posers that want the offroad look but only drive on the street - like me.
Now I just have to research the fitment. My GF has an '04 Dakota 4x4, and the previous owner already turned up the front keys to level it out. There is significant wheel gap with the stock 245/70R16's, and I believe they measure ~ 29.5" dia. The dealer option tire is a 265/70R16 which measures ~ 30.6" dia. and would add another ~ 10lbs. to each wheel. What I want to research is if anyone had success with Firestone Destination M/T in size 285/75R16 which measures ~ 33.1" dia.

Got em on. Mounted and balanced for free at a friends shop, I tipped the tech though.
3 of the 4 balanced at .75oz, 1.25oz and 4oz. The 4th one, he thinks possibly it sat deflated, or sat unmounted with something on it...it took 14oz to 0 it out, all inside stick on weights, but it did 0...however it had a decent vibration, he said to run it a few weeks and come back and he will see if some of the weights can come off, and if the wobble has possibly settled out..if not, Im hunting a discontinued tire...
But wow, I love em, they track a little twitchy compared to the old ones, but they definitely are mud tires...Not loud to me though, yo ucan feel the lugs at 1-5mph...but other than that, normal mud tire.
Did not have to crank the front end, it cleared the flares and everything with room to spare, I think I could even go to 285/75/17 and still have breathing room.

Good luck with the firestones. I've been driving since 1976 and never had a set of firestones I liked.
Back in '77 I spent good money on a set of brand new Firestone 721's for my Fairlane. 3 out of 4 had sidewall or tread separation.
The '84 Chevy conversion van had them on, over 3/4 tread depth. Worst tires ever in the rain. I've driven better handling cars with bald tires in the snow.
Bought the '01 Suburban ( in '05 ) and they put a brand new set of Firestones on it. Not only were they shitty in the rain, they sucked ass on boat ramps.
These are the tires

I dont think Ive ever had a set of tires I was genuinely displeased with...
I had Toyo Proxxes4 on the mustang, and they wore well, rode well, gret traction...
Had continentals on the Caddy...cheap shit tire..but rode well, and was smooth.
I have uniroyal Liberator A/T on both my Z71 and K3500, and I like them.
MY dodge had Dunlops, Goodyears, Michelins, uniroyals, all had good points and bad points, but all wore good enough and has good enough traction, or were really cheap...
Vette had Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's and I got over 50K out of a set before the rears went totally bald....
I dunno, Im pretty easy going on tires....and I inspect them weekly, on all driven vehicles, if there is a problem, I find it early...Ive foudn that most tires are good, and a simple, minor alignment or suspension fault ,can make a good tire look like hell in sohrt order. The Dodge for instance, after 10K miles, the front tires on the dodge were cupping badly on the inside...some lugs were over 50% gone. I put on a pitman arm and idler arm and new shocks, rotated the rears up front...and got 40K out of the set before I hit a board in the road and the resulting impact knocked one of them out of round.

I worked at the local tire store while I was in high school. I keep an eye on my tires too. I've had all kinds of different brands. I've had better luck with off brands than firestones.

My dad has had some rough luck with off brandsm he put a still fairly expesive set of Fierce Tires on his Mustang GT and despite 3 shops saying the front alignment was perfect....the Fierce tires up front would only last 10K miles.4 tires..2 were replaced due to knots, 2 were replaced due to balding shoulders. 185 a pop.
So, he went to Kumho MX...sold em with 35K on them and still new tread depth..go figure.

I've had great luck with Pirellis on the Suburban, '77 corvette and the '91 Park Ave. Right now we have Yokohama Geolandrs AT on the Jeep Cherokee ( 30/9.50-15) second set, and had them on the '01 Suburban too. Great tire, towed well and greta on both boat ramps and in the snow.
Now I have LT245/75R-16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 E on the '01 Suburban and they're even better.

Ive read A LOT of negatives about dueler A/T's online, I checked them out because a guy had a set in my size a couple weeks ago, 90% tread, for 300 bucks, but...I read some stuff, people dont like em...probably why he got rid of them so soon...I dunno.

I have ProComp 35"x 12.50" on my Superduty stock 20" wheels. Tread is getting down there. Small mortgage to replace but they have proven quiet and good tread wear.

Pro-Comps are great for mall crawlers.Interco's for the win! I run B.F. G's all-terrians for normal driving and now have a custom grooved set of Swamper TSL radials that work great off road for alot of different conditions.
Those tires look good Red.

Dueler REVO II? I purchased a set of Dueler A/T takeoffs ( they were NOT REVO II ) from a local seller off a chevy truck forum ( $250 for 4 ) and couldn't wait until they wore out. Flimsy feeling sidewalls , I think they were bottom line OEM tires.

I think 4wheelparts.com is running a sale on them now
