Is where I grew up.
Thankfully I wasn't born there, and double thankful my kids weren't.

The Indiana stretch of the Ohio River Valley is one of the most toxic environments on Earth.
Sounds like a rough situation. I was watching a documentary on Tar Creek (superfund site in in OK). That was pretty bad, too.
Looks like New Jersey has it the worst when it comes to superfunds.

Ive been in the area since 1970. Live in Warrick County and worked in Evansville 36 years. Actually worked in a plating plant. That was a toxic enviornment if there ever was one. Maybe thats why I'm so crazy. I just thought it ran in the family.:dance:

I used to ride dirt bikes in the New Jersey Pine Barrens back in the late 70s and up to the late 80s. I put on a brand new set of knobbies on my '77 Husky 390 CR.
We had a blast riding riding and we we got back, I cleaned up the bike. I had a dime size spot on the front tire that was "smurf blue" and would not come off. :confused5: I have no idea what chemical I rode thru that stained the tire that color.
My Husky was exactly like this one :yesnod:

We have lived in the area since 2004. In that time I've seen scrubbers put on the Alcoa plant cutting down on the emissions. Vectren has put scrubbers on their plants. The AEP plant in Rockport is shutting down one of their units due to not meeting emission standards. I also heard Duke is shutting down three of their units up in Vincennes because of a lawsuit around pollution. They are suppose to convert two units over to natural gas as well.
One of the first things we noticed when we moved here was the amount of hospitals for such a small area. Most of the hospitals also specialize in cancer and cancer research, tells us something about the area.

Yeh, we have Mayo, and many other hospitals and Docs all over the joint here, but you gotta know that like the rest of Florida, this is God's waiting room....

So, is that Helium in the tires to make the bike float, or was it the chemicals?????

It is a fact that childhood cancer, and other diseases are MUCH higher in that area.
I read a report on that type of thing; seems these "pockets" of diseases had everything to do with genetics of the families that live there... and have for generations. These "pockets" exist in places where there aren't any of these these "risks".
The conclusion was that - although they exist - it's mostly due to DNA genetics of the families that settled there... and not the "sky is falling" pshcho-preach factors.

Or lead-based paint chips.
Delicious, crunchy, lead-based paint chips.

Genetics of the people who have lived around those plants for generations, even predating modern pollution controls.

I'm sure it will be great comfort to the families of those who lose their jobs/houses/cars, etc. because the government is forcing these plants to close. Hey, maybe they can all get hired at McDonalds.
The people of the rainforest live in a wonderful, beautiful, clean area of the world. Too bad they have to cut down the trees to sell to live. Everybody wants clean air and water, but they also like to not be in poverty.

I don't think there is any evidence whatsoever that their chromosomes were changed or mutated by power plant fumes.
But, hey, close down those coal plants and replace them with NG plants. Fine by me. But REPLACE THEM. Energy = Wealth, a very simple equation most progressives struggle to understand. And Unicorn Farts <> Energy.
