This is my speaker setup which i am happy with and don't intend on changing just yet.
Boston Acoustics MCS 130 Home Theater Speaker System (Midnight) 5 compact speakers and a powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KjBGTL5fRK0/p_065MCS130B/Boston-Acoustics-MCS-130-Home-Theater-Speaker-System-Midnight.html)
I'm not into gaming so i just need to hook up the digital cable box and the Netflix/DVD/Blu Ray box. Digital streaming for music via the desktop or phones is prefered as well. Actually a phone via USB or Audio AUX line would be ok too if the price is right but wireless is the preference.
Suggest away but please keep pricing in mind.
TIA.

Are you looking for an AV amp?
If so, look at Yamaha.

Just so I understand completely you are keeping the Boston setup and want to add a Home Theater receiver to connect your Blu Ray player and other peripherals?
Also need a price point.
Sonos for streaming if you don't already have something else. Its the only thing I have to control my 2ch setup.
What is your definition of affordable? Do you lean towards musical quality home theater? You really can't have both. One is going to suffer a little.
My personal preference is music. Multi-channel setups always seem to disappoint me.

Marantz US | SR5008 (http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=AVReceivers&SubCatId=0&ProductId=SR5008)
$649
Marantz US | NR1604 (http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=AVReceivers&SubCatId=0&ProductId=NR1604)
Both od those will do everything you are asking and Marantz makes a great product.
The prices listed above are retailer prices and not street prices.
Searching them on the interwebs will get you a better price.
Alternatively I checked and they have at least 12 dealers in Atlanta.
Magnolia being one of them.

Correct.
Less than $500. The cheaper the better in my wife's eyes though.

Real price or "this gun only cost this much" price?

Here's the Yamaha Rx-V series, they're in your price range and have a lot of features.
RX-V - AV Receivers - Audio & Visual - Products - Yamaha United States (http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx/)
I have the 667 currently (replaced by 673 in link above), and I gave the older model to my father when I upgraded (needed HDMI switcher, the older one had component only).
Just checked and the 673 is on amazon for under $400! wow, I might buy one at that price.
The 675 is the latest greatest:

Sorry.. Forgot about this thread. I'll look into both of those suggestions. Thanks.
My Kenwood is pushing 9 years old and the display works when it wants to and it's also a little underpowered as well so i'll be upgrading in a few. Good news is the wife is on board so i will probably end up getting a new TV as well.... Which means a $500 receiver will turn into a $7500-10k livingroom remodel, with hardwoods, fireplace remodel, shelving, new furniture, etc.. :banghead:

House needs it.. The fireplace has a mantel that is about a footdeep and 5 feet wide.. It's overbearing. The hearth is a foot high and protrudes about 2 feet into the livingroom. We have the 36" TV in the corner for now but i will move that one into the master and mount the new 55"+ TV over the fireplace and do someshelve to the right and left of it for pictures and shit.. Similar to this but with different stone work and no hearth.

the most simple (and also cost effective) decent performing HT system is one where the spearkers are all "matched".
Matched ?
where the speakers mfgr are all the same; and the tweeters used are all the same, and the teeeters crossover point is the same (or very near each other).
I've setup a few HT setups over the years - including calibration, and the some of the less expensive "all shipped in one cardboard box systems " sound clearer that a mish-mash of different types/mfgrs of speakers.

I bet your reception sucks with no tin foil on those rabbit ears!!!
I'll check the model number when I get a chance, but I have a Yamaha Home Theater Receiver that I picked up at Costco about a year ago. I've been very happy with it. Networked, so it can play music from my media server. USB for ipods and whatnot. I think it was in the $300-350 range.
I'm not an audiophile, but for the occasional movie, music, and my kid's video games, it's fantastic.

Not to be dippin' in your Kool-Aid, but what does your wife get in return? It's been my experience these things almost always result in a negotiation of something.

She gets to redothe livingroom how she want with new furniture, i get new electronics. It's a win for us both.

Do you have Apple phones/tablets? If so make sure your receiver has AirPlay built in.

That's a great price but the last Yamaha I had was 1996 and it was put to shame by Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo etc. I just think, sonically speaking, are very poor AVRs.
Not even from the stand point of an audio snob. The sound of the Yammie was muddy, bass heavy/weighted in the 150-250 Hz range.
To be fair, I haven't listened to them in years though.

Pioneer Elite, Denon, a good one shouldn't cost more than $800 or so.

I offered it to Mark already, but if he isn't interested, I'll be selling my Denon 3806 for a newer model of the same.
Later this year I'm selling the Denon 4311 Ci to upgrade to one that supports 4k projection. This unit juuuust missed it. :slap:
The 3806 I'll do $150 + shipping.

:seasix: If I'm looking at the right one, it's 2hdmi in and 1 out which probably won't be enough. I'm looking to mount the tv on the wall soon, and will want to use the receiver to add or remove devices....right now i'd need to switch the cable box, playstation, and Apple TV, i'm wondering if an HDMI input on the front shouldn't be a requirement either.

I haven't heard it but would get away from "big box store" units if I could.
There's a used NAD T-754 on AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community (http://www.audiogon.com) for $225.

It isn't going to have all of the features you were looking for but the power rating is continuous with all channels driven. Sony's ratings are not measured that way.
On Audiogon for $650, you can get an Integra DTR-70.1 (High end Onkyo)

I don't want to blow speakers when v-tec kicks in yo..
I'm currently running a 2-channel 500 watt amp. The sucker weights 75 pounds and it is just an amp. I (have to) use a separate pre-amp/DAC. I would like to upgrade to 1000 watt monoblocks someday. You can never have too much power as long as it is clean. It just gives you more headroom for dynamic range. My speakers do not have traditional tweeters/woofers though, since they are magnaplanar. With 500 watts continuous to each speaker, they don't even get "loud."
I highly recommend the company. They also have an A/V receiver for $699
