Verizon Offering Rebate to Customers Who Want iPhone
Verizon Wireless is cutting a break to customers who just bought a new Verizon phone but want the iPhone 4.
The carrier is offering up to a $200 Visa debit card to customers who purchased a smartphone between late November and early January, and wish to return their phone and buy an iPhone at full retail.
The offer is only good at Verizon stores and online, and applies to customers who bought their previous phones between Nov. 26 and Jan. 10.

Sprint Adds Data Charge
If you plan on purchasing and activating a smartphone on Sprint starting January 30, make sure you understand the contract you are signing because Sprint announced today a new premium data charge. On Sprint’s Everything Data plan, a new premium charge of $10 is being added and even if you are currently in a smartphone contract you will see the addition once you activate a new smartphone.
Sprint prides itself on its true unlimited data plans but claims it needs the extra surcharge to bolster networks and provide even better data coverage. At this point, I would definitely consider going with a 4G smartphone even though where I live isn’t covered by Sprint’s 4G WiMAX. Sprint charges an extra $10 for 4G service, which is now comparable to its 3G Everything Data plan.

Huge Earnings For Apple Again
Apple posted another huge quarter, breaking records once again for both revenue and profit.
The company posted a first fiscal quarter profit of $6 billion, up from $3.38 billion the same period last year, on revenue of $26.74 billion. The numbers were buoyed by sales 7.33 million iPads, 16.24 million iPhones and 4.13 million Mac computers.
The numbers are for the three months that ended Dec. 25.
“We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales,” Jobs said in a statement. “We are firing on all cylinders and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year including iPhone 4 on Verizon which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.”
Jobs announced Monday that he was taking a leave of absence for an undetermined amount of time in order to focus on his health. Apple's stock opened 5 percent down early Tuesday on the news, but were expected to surge on news of the strong earnings, which were released after the close of the market.
