What are the wires for, again?

It's complicated. It involves ball gags, handcuffs, testicles, and a car battery.

So I've heard. :leaving:

4...to be exact:hurray:

Actually, not technically trumpet style horns....I bought an OEM set of ACDF Cadillac horns off a site, guy buys them off salvaged cars, he only buys OEM D/R horns, cleans them, inspects and tests their coils, tunes them using the external screw to ensure proper pitch and volume...then media blasts and paints them.

I dont recall the specifics, but I think these will have come off an early 70's DEville? I dunno...but supposedly, aimed and powered correctly, people are getting 125db out of them...

I fabricated some mounts under the front bumper, the horns will be a in a 2X2 pairing, pointing down and forward, and will be protected and concealed by the Air dam that will be here on Tuesday of next week. I did some checking and the stock wiring is pretty heavy, should be more than capable of supporting the horns, I just soldered in some extension wires for the hot and ground.

Yep, last low note is gone. Guy spends that much on an original car/restoration...and gets the horn wrong...nice.

My phone doesnt do it justice, Ive got to take a video from farther back...its unreal. And yes, from 15 feet away, it makes your ears tickle inside.

How about the black diesel smokescreen? Can your truck do that?

Not really, the 6.5 Detroit was electronically timed and controlled, so it meters the fuel pretty well. It will put some black out if I punch it from a stop, but only for an instant until the Turbo spools. Ive got a gauge on it now and it only takes a moment to spool and make 10-11psi.

Ive got a guy thats going to tune me a new eprom chip for it, advancing the fuel delivery and pump timing, as well as turning off a few annoyinf DTC lights due t othe manual wastegate controller. 220 bucks, should see a 50hp/ and 50/tq bump in power, as well as a 5% economy improvement...money well spend.

Bring it on Powerchokes and cummers, Duralacks.....

Easy there killer, there's no shortage of 10 second diesels runnin' around out there.

Sounds like a nice bump in performance and a little extra efficiency to boot.
I guess there was no torque management for the earlier years?

Its unclear, but I beleive there IS, but its simply, on the diesels, just programmed in as the default tune.

I cant spin my tires if I powerbrake it, but if I hammer down it runs to 60 in about 11 seconds. It holds 4 psi @ 60mph, and if I put the pedal down it kicks to 3200, boost hits 12psi and holds it to 85mph with the quickness.

But...it wont spin the tires and it feels like 1st gear is lacking power. The Tuner said that the factory tune was trash, he said the shift settings were more or less intended for 4.56 geared duallies with short tires...vs a taller tired 4.10 geared truck. But he said he can fix all of that, and even lower EGT's doing it. Its already got the 4" exhaust, and open intake, its ready for more fuel now.

I just hope the head gaskets hold up, but hell, if they pop, I can put in thicker ones, run more boost. and make more power...

Interesting how conservative factory tuning is although it makes sense given warranty concerns.

If he can pull enough timing and alter shift points on that chip, that should make a substantial difference.

People have gotten as much as 80hp from a tune and exhaust change, and with a turbo upgrade, exhaust change, re-tune, and injectors....130+...all day long. That puts the crank power..somewhere around 340hp and 525ft/lbs, give or take. and STILL, getting 20mpg+...

The 6.5's though, had problems, they were IDI and thus, have pressed in pre-cups in the heads, and, they can crack...the heads can crack, these things are pushing like 22:1 compression bone stock, WAY more than most other diesels. The cranks are strong, but..prone to failure, not generally due to rpms, or oiling, but from the harmonic vibrations from a bad dampner, and usually the block fails first, and takes the crank out.

Whats nice, is...if it blows, you can get a Take-out engine from a HUMMVEE, straight out of the Military's repower program, the engines are meticulously cared for and maintained, and have a certified 10,000-40,000 maximum miles on them. All you have to do is swap oil pans, injection pump, intake, manifolds/turbo, injectors and glows...a few things here and there...and its like a brand new engine, that can handle 20lbs of boost and aggressive timing and fuel curves..and last a lifetime.
