Ranger is getting weaker. He hardly gets up any more.

We are going to give him a round of prednisone. The risk is that, if he has any undiagnosed infections, it will kill him. If we get lucky, it will improve his condition.

He has some sort of raw spots in his ears, so I suspect infection there. The reality is he is not going to get better. But we owe him this last chance.

I'm torn on the timing. He isn't in pain that I can tell (he is a crybaby). But he is wiped out. Even wobbling on his feet sometimes. Every once in a while he perks up and plays for a few minutes.

I really wanted to get footage of him playing with his ball. He does a peculiar thing with it. But his playing days might be over. It's one of those things you always say, we need to get that on camera..." but we never did. :sadangel:

I really hope the prednisone helps him feel better at the least.

Time for me to be the voice of reason again..

You have your own health issues you have informed us about. Not only that but the medication/treatment is rather expensive from what i recall leading to some household budget hardships on occasion. The dog is obviously getting worse and you are prolonging the inevitable. Not only that but by going down the road you are you are going to accumulate more vet bills which you can probably do without at this point. If your wife is anything like mine she won't say a word about it and will support you as its "your dog" but she's probably thinking everything i just stated.

I know it's not easy but it's time. You know it is, you just don't want to let go.

Unfortunately....this ^^

Obviously you need to be at peace with whatever you decide, but...think about the dog's quality of life.

I'm not sure how it affects canines, but prednisone sure made my wife meaner'n a rattlesnake when she was facing a life-threatening illness in 2010. She was on that stuff for nearly three months. Brutal drug!

It if were my dog, I wouldn't want my final memories of him to be that of a snippy, snappy, irritable creature before he met his noble end. Just something to think about.

You'll know when it's time Pete.

We had to give Mochi prednisone and it made him extremely irritable and quick to snap. I hope it works but remember, quality of life.

Sorry man.
