One of my kickball teammates took her own life Saturday night. Beautiful girl, 27 years old, always happy and smiling. Got into a bad situation Thursday night and I guess she felt overwhelmed.

Please, people, find someone to talk to when things get rough. Anything is better than a permanent solution to a temporary problem, no matter how bad it is.

RIP Harmonie. May you find the peace withthe Lord that you couldn't find here.

:sadangel: that is never a good answer to anything.

We all have friends that we know we can reach out to if we need to talk - I know I have reached out to people when I feel down and had friends reach out to me when they need a friend. Never be afraid to reach out a helping hand to someone.

May the Lord be with her family during this time.

I really can't even begin to comprehend the thought process someone would have to have to think that was a good way to handle a situation. :sadangel:

Some folks just can't, or are never taught how to cope.

I've know several people who've committed suicide, three that I worked with on a daily basis. One was out of frustration, one because of embarassment, and one because it seemed to be the practical way to ensure his family was taken care of financially. Not one did anybody see it coming either.

I know one thing, the military community currently takes suicide prevention very seriously. According to a 2010 Veteran's Administration (VA) report, vets commit suicide at the rate of 22 a day, or almost one an hour.

Zero to suicide in one night? Yikes. :sadangel:

I can understand when folks are facing a terminal illness and make that choice but it doesn't sound like the situation here.

A friend of mine killed himself a couple of years ago. I would have done anything for him if I had known. I hope the people close to me know that no problems are forever.

My very oldest friend from Jr. High yet killed himself at age 19, went out to live with his Psychiatrist/Psychologist father......got involved in some affair, and so shot himself.....lost ALL respect for that occupation when I heard of it.....

since then about another 8 or so have done it.....

one owned a gas station, Wife Sandy was given the pistol with brain matter on it......Anna washed the station tarmac down......another one had rebuilt my GOAT engine a year or so earlier.....wife/murder/suicide.....

another beat the wrap for killing Darla, some time later Vic died from basically over eating.....

owner of a '63 vette got into it was his g/f blew his brains out....parents sold the vette for market price off the street in front of the house, it sat for almost a year......

there are a few others I can't recall, been a while.....:issues:

You should be thankful for that fact.

I lost one friend to suicide, and I truly believe I stopped another.

Really sorry to hear this. It is a shame that she decided that the only way to solve what ever it was was to do this. May she rest in peace and be blessed my God.:sadangel:

If you are depressed, upset, drink excessively, use drugs, etc, its easy to commit suicide when you are down. Especially if you are military and have firearms readily available to do so. It's a fact... That's why Alaska has the highest suicide rate per captita than any other state. That's a discussion for another day though.

Sorry to hear about your friend Doc.

...need to talk to people and make sure they are OK,
That is the truth.

After being close to a few, and watching the count go up at the end of the Shuttle program (five more that I know of), I'm no longer shy about asking if people are OK. Most times I'll get a "why wouldn't I be?" in return, but I will always offer to be an ear if nothing more. I always tell them, you are not alone.

Hopefully knowing somebody cares, even if it's not someone that they know well, will cause them to talk it out.

Kinda weird, I didn't really know her that well (played kickdall together for 2 seasons, total 12 games and a few afterparties) but she was immensely likeable and liked. I almost feel like I know her better over the last two days as her other friends tell stories and post pictures on her Facebook timeline.

It was a legal concern that came into play Thursday night. No one injured in any way and no theft or other malicious intent. I'd like to just leave it at that :sadangel:

Earlier in life I've been in periods where I really about gave up on life but it was never enough to push me to end it.

Most likely it wasn't "one night".
I'd guess that she hid it well. :sadangel:
