I don't think it would have. There is a lot of mass with that steam tractor plus the gearing of the steam tractor puts all the power down. :yesnod:

It is the much taller wheels on the steam tractor. Harder for it to turn them over....meaning less slippage....

Disagree.

4x4 would have just let the JD dig a deeper hole, quicker. Steam makes huge torque.
