WASHINGTON (AP) — Tire-maker Michelin says it is recalling about 1.2 million tires sold in the U.S. because an increasing number are experiencing tread loss or rapid air loss.

The tires are commonly used for pickup trucks, heavy-duty vans, small RVs and commercial light trucks. The Greenville, S.C-based company says no deaths or injuries have been reported because of the tires.

The tires, known as Michelin LTX M/S tires, were manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012. They were sold as original equipment on some vehicles and as new replacement tires.

The company says that fewer than 200 of the tires have been returned by customers. Owners can have them replaced at Michelin stores for no charge.

I knew you couldn't trust that bastard Bibendum!

The shareholders just took it in the shorts this year. Still, all in all, not as bad or costly as the Firestone/Exploder debacle some years back.

Michelin North America, Inc. has just announced it is recalling certain LT225/75R16 115/112R LRE-sized LTX M/S tires manufactured January 10, 2010 thru June 23, 2012.

These tires have the possibility of developing a tread separation, often evidenced by a ride vibration or irregular wear. In some circumstances this condition could lead to a loss of tread, and in some cases rapid air loss, risking a loss of vehicle control or a vehicle crash.

Michelin will notify owners and Michelin dealers will replace the tires free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin on January 6, 2014.

Owners may call Michelin Consumer Care Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, or Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 4:30pm EST at the following numbers: USA: 1-800-231-5893 (language options: English and Spanish).

I have those on my Silverado 2500! I lost a big chunk of tread. I was going to just replace them. Hmmm.... need to go see about getting me some free tires.
