Ive been jonesing for a Gooseneck trailer to replace my 16 foot bumper pull for a while now, Goosenecks are more maneuverable and reduce "wasted length".

My 16 footer has (2) 3500lb 5 lug axels, and at 5000lbs, its pretty well loaded...I think at 6000, it would start to fail.

This one is a PJ gooseneck, its a high end trailer, the site lists their 20 footers coming with (2), 7000lb (8 lug) axels, and a GVWR of 15,680lbs.

The pictures though, show 2wd Chevy 5 lug rims...? I cant imagine a 20ft goosenck with 3500lb axels, and he wants almost 3K for it...seems off.

Anyone know if 5 lug axels can have a higher capacity?

"Call or text Lucky"? :funnier:

I'm up to speed with car haulers and not up to speed on 5th wheel rigs.
Does look clean and well cared for though.

I know exactly where that is. That guy's property backs up to my 10 acres, that's my land in the background in the 3rd pic.

I've spoken to him once or twice. Right now my 10 acres is just bare land, so I don't go out there too often. It does look like the axles have been swapped.

I say axle swap, and those definitely are not trailer tires.

If I could get it for 1500, with those axels, and it still has brakes on at least 1 axel..it could be a deal, I know I can get 800 for my 16 foot bumper pull. But no way is it worth what he wants, with 3500lb axels...

The proper tires would be, I think...235/85R16, which is about 31" tall, and 10ply, those tires appear to be something like P225/65/R16's...which is only about 28"...explains the odd fender gap...

I dunno...I dont even think its worth making an offer...his price is up in the atmosphere.

Looking at about 1000 dollars for new Axels and springs/perches to put it back to capacity, figuring 1 axel will have brakes and one will not. Plus tires and wheels, estimate, about 400 for a used set of wheels and new tires.

1400 bucks, and 1500 purchase price...Is still 2900 bucks, and I dont think its even worth that much fixed up, its still only 20 feet long.

Shame...

Red, I don't know what you plan on carrying with that, but go price a new one. I'm pulling something similar to that right now, only mine has two 8,000 pound axles, 14 ply tires, and two jacks rather than one single. If you are considering the trailer, figure out what the swap out to Dexter axles and springs, hangers, etc. Will cost you. You should consider going with a higher capacity than you think you might need, because, well, because racecar. Also brakes on both axles is reccomended. No idler axles, m'kay? Because not being able to stop sucks.

I'm guessing that trailer is an older model because of the single jack. The floor looks Ok. Find out when it was put in and whether it is treated wood. If it isn't, what else is wrong with it? Also consider that if the 3,500 pound axles the trailer has are OEM, then your state might not allow you to register it for more than the manufacturer's GVWR of , what? 7,500 pounds?

If that's the case, you will be considered an overweight truck, if your load exceeds the OEM rating, regardless of what you put under it.

Its not so much of a weight issue as it is a size issue. I try ot schedule my mower deliveries and pickups to consolodate them to one trip in, and one trip back..saves alot of fuel. The extra 4ft = another mower I can carry, without making my rig much longer. Its also easier to tow, centering the tongue weight over the axel.

I rarely go past 5000lbs of anything, so the 3500lb axels are adequate, however...It would be really nice to have a trailer I could tow one of my trucks with, if one ever broke down, and Id be nervous putting 6K+ on those wheels and axels/brakes. If there are indeed 3500lb axles.
