Well, Joecool, are you?

George Zimmerman's girlfriend recants domestic violence... | www.wftv.com (http://www.wftv.com/news/news/local/george-zimmermans-girlfriend-recants-domestic-viol/ncGMS/)

His girlfriend just recanted her entire allegation. So, are you ready to admit that you were completely off base?

No arguments there. I hope he moves to Texas and finds a nice new and quiet identity.

I once had a friend who was a former domestic violence attorney.

She quit and focused on civil litigation.

When I asked her why she said "Because the women kept going back to their abusers."

If she decides she doesn't want to testify, her 911 call will be what the state uses in its prosecution. Her changing her story doesn't get him off the hook. Domestic violence victims commonly recant statements made to police. However, because the victim may be pressured to change his or her story and because domestic violence frequently recurs, the prosecutor generally will file the charges if there is sufficient evidence of domestic abuse — even if the victim changes his or her story.

There have been so many instances of women making charges against him and later recanting them, there is no way the state will drop the charges.

So Zimmerman is still charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault, which carries with it up to 5 years in prison if convicted. Guess we will see if it goes to trial or not.

IOW, no... you aren't willing to admit you might have been wrong about Zimmerman.

At least not yet. :seasix:

I'd say her attorney explained the difference between lying on a 911 call and committing perjury...and that is why she recanted.

Although there is some general truth in what you're saying about the State still being able to go forward if the main witness recants his/her story, you need to accentuate "the prosecutor generally will file the charges if there is sufficient evidence of domestic abuse". In other words there has to be other evidence to substantiate the charges. In this case where there appears to be no other evidence except her's, then it is very, very unlikely the prosecution will go forward. Alleged victims of domestic abuse often admit that they were just mad and seeking revenge when the allegations were made. You are taking way too much liberty with what might have happened.

That said, I am the first to admit that Geo. Zimmerman is not a blip on my radar, so if there is other evidence, then I am wrong. If there isn't other other evidence, then your argument is what is known in legal circles as "straining at a gnat's ass". If you are going to use legal arguments, please understand them.

And be glad that the law is like it is. In case you are ever prosecuted one day, you will appreciate every safeguard that is in place...because you will need them.

I'm sure women never tell lies to try to gain the upper hand in a break up or divorce either.

George separates from his wife, files for divorce and she calls the cops and says "gun".

George breaks up with his wacky girlfriend and she calls the cops and says "gun".

He was found not guilty in a court of law of killing TM so you know he has a big target on him anytime somebody says "gun".

Probably more like they saw the possible money train pulling out of the station and were grasping at straws for their free ride.

George needs to find more stable friends. :yesnod:

Exactly.. And with everything that has gone down i'm sure 80% of the ones he has/had bailed on him for one reason or another. With the baggage that he has now its going to be hard to establish new ones too.

In all seriousness if i were him i would have already left the country. That's the only way he could get anything close to a fresh start. Disappear for 3-5 years then come back when almost everyone has forgotten about you.

He would have to have real good friends for them to stay around him right now. The added scrutiny to everything he does would drive most friends away.

A bunch of bad decisions (and not just his own ) put him into this mess, it will take a lot for him to leave them behind.

I guess I'll admit I was wrong about Zimmerman. At first I figured he was a pretty normal, average guy who got screwed by a system run by a bunch of over zealous, attention whores, hoping to make a name for themselves, so they could seek more power and/or higher office. Now I think he's a kind of marginal average knuckle-head who got screwed by a system run by a bunch of over zealous, attention whores, hoping to make a name for themselves, so they could seek more power and/or higher office.

When the facts came out about the Trayvon incident my comment was two idiots had a convention and Darwin showed up. Zimmerman is an idiot. And innocent idiot but still and idiot.
