Oh my, we are supposed to get snow. Had to stop at the store and get a new keyboard for my wife's computer. You would think we are at an apocalypse now. I've never seen as much Toilet Paper, Beer and milk in the check out lanes in my life. Wonder what they would do if we really got some deep snow.

They'd give the kids cereal, then they'd get drunk and crap themselves, thus needing the toilet paper.

We're expecting 1/2 inch of ice here in North TX and many stores are already sold out of "emergency" stuff. Main difference down here is if it does ice (weatherman here predict the sky is falling more than anywhere else I've lived) it will all be gone in a day or two. So why the panic? :island14:

Here, in the Deep South, the panic arises because we have no snow removal equipment, no one can drive on ice, and electricity invariably is lost. Spending a couple of days or even one with no electricity and maybe heat or way to cook gets pretty miserable in a hurry.

Where I am the power goes out if a squirrel jumps up and down on the wire. :) BTDT. I'd rather have a winter power outage than one in the middle of summer. At least the freezer and fridge stay cold... But I hear what you are saying.

My late Dad ( born and raised in Pa ) said San Antonio, Texas was the worse place he was in for snow.
His exact quote
Nobody knows how to drive. Get on the second floor and hope nobody crashes into the house

When my Dad moved to NC, he determined that the local govt thinking was " God brought it, God will take it away"

So if there is an emergency situation in my county or a county I go through to get to work, I don't have to risk it. But, if I drive to work and then we get the emergency, I can't leave. I would have to stay at work until it's cleared, which might be late Saturday.

They closed a bunch of schools at around noon yesterday. By 6 PM there was actually some accumulation of snow on the roads, perhaps 1/8". Oh noooooos!

We now have about 1.5" and it is lightly snowing. When I went to school the only time there was a snow day was when it was either icy or there was at least 6" of snow, and even then that would just be one day typically. They would put chains on the bus' tires and the stupid bus would come to pick us up. Stupid dumb bus.

In Illinois, where I went to grade school, snow days were pretty much unheard of. You'd just tough it out, walk to school in your snow pants and boots. The only one I remember them calling was when we had 20"+ snow. The snow plow came and put a huge berm of snow in front of our driveway before my dad got his Impala out on the road. I spent the entire morning with him shoveling the drive and that huge pile of snow the plow left. That was fun. Dad got to run the snow blower, I got a shovel.

Got to work around 5 this morning. The roads weren't bad at all. The worst part was the white knuckle drivers doing 25 with a little sleet on the road. The way home was interesting with about 4 inches on the roads and not a plow in site.

X-Drive on the X5M is great. I tried to spin a little in our development and it just digs in and goes. I cleaned off about 8 inches on our driveway and it has about another two or three on it already.
The dogs run out do their business and want to come back in.

It will be time to break out the snow blower again in the AM and clear our driveway out. It is nice having a three car garage but damn that driveway is long and wide.

The Christmas lights look nice in the snow. I might try to grab some pictures in a bit. I'm still warming up from being out in the snow with the dogs.

I know where Fishers brothers is. It was sad to see them close. They had a great selection of wood you couldn't find anywhere else. Neat old store inside, very nice people when I dealt with them. I usually get my gas at the Marathon over there. Now they are playing games with the price of premium I might just use the Shell over here in Boonville. Not worth the drive to save 4 cents a gallon.

I left work today around 1PM and the afternoon shift was already calling off for the storm. Our superintendent was sweating it out if we would have enough people to keep the lines running.

I think that was the Dec 23 storm. 23 inches that time. There was about 12" on the ground when I left work in the Vette. Had some guys push me out of the parking lot. Barley got in the driveway at home when I got stuck. Best part is, 2 or 3 days later it all melted away.:cert:

Sun melted the ice on the driveway. I hate using a deicer for fear of hurting our dogs pads. They like to romp on the driveway when the sun is out. One of them lays on the asphalt and takes in the heat to his old bones. He has arthritis pretty bad. Dogs only play in the snow for about 15 minutes then the snowballs form on the paws and they line up by the door to get back in the heat.
One of them is laying by the fireplace belly up taking in the heat from the fire. What a life.

I miss my pups. Had anywhere from 1 to 4 for the last 20+ years. Last one died, last year. Need to get some things out of the way before I get another. Two seems the best for me. Two will entertain themselves and require a bit less attention. Mine always get max attention anyway though.:cert:

Pics of dead varmints?

My friend John ( who owns a gun shop ) had his picture book sitting out. As I'm paging thru, I come across a picture of half a gopher.

I ask John about the picture. He had a bunch of parts and had a gunsmith friend assemble them. ( 6mm Shiloh barrel and a 40X action ). He ended up with an excellent shooting rifle in a wildcat round, 6mm-.284.

Using a old Unertl 36x target scope, he shot that gopher at 695 yards. The guy running the gopher shoot was so impressed with the shot he measured the distance using a surveyors wheel.
