And apparently, all they need to go that far is coils, heads, wires, injectors, brakes, transmission, etc..

Its actually, if clean and runs right, a bargain for that kind of performance, and new parts....

What's with the "Auto Form" top?

Aftermarket hard top. May be why the price is low, those cars are targas. That looks like some weird conversion.
The windshield frame should be black, with those terrible side curtains and a fabric or solid targa top. A friend of mine bought one new and only uses it for autocross. He has done nothing to it in 20 years other than tires. Still has the original brakes.

Well, let's face it, in the end, it's still just a twenty year old Dodge...

I prefer the GTS myself. Make mine the blue with white stripes please.

What's with the "Auto Form" top?

1st gens were never made availalbe with anything more than a Soft top, auto-form makes a custom hard top, allowing for outside storage.

I always liked that these has no ABS, no trac control, Rarely had A/C, it was a drivers car...and 0-60 in 4s flat...top speed north of 175..

What's funny is you see NSXs that age with 150K+ all the time...and they sell for twice that. I hear that gen Viper is miserable to drive, that's why the miles are always so low. I'd still love to have one though, for a little while.

Don't you have trucks with more miles than that? You might have to sell a few of them to get this though.

Ive only got one thats all original with more miles, the Dually has 248K. The K1500 has 208K but the engine is a new crate engine, trans is new, etc..

The other 2 are 127K and 151K

Id have to sell one of them to make an offer on this beast...but my problem is not buying it...my problem would be, when anything broke, Id be f*cked deep, deep in the ass. Rear tires..about 600 each. Brakes, probably 250 a corner, clutch, easily 1200 for a decent one.

I'd certainly pay for an inspection to see what it might need. The ad claims he just put new tires and brakes on it. Buy it and drive it for a month or two and then resell it before it needs anything.

Pretty sure im already banned at 2 viper forums, a volvo forum, 2 corvette forums, a Ferrari forum, a bike forum, a truck forum, a 4X4 forum...

I dont have very many more places to go, to be honest...

People dont like to hear an honest opinion...

Everyone I ever knew that owned one of those ended up spinning it. At speed, in a straight line.

If you really are going to get it, please be careful. That's a lot of car.

Its a Viper...the first thing you do, by law, is melt the rear tires, smoke the clutch, and boil the brakes off it....

but really, I can afford it, but its not practical, I could pickup a lower miles C5, or even a mid miles C5Z...and have a more practical car...I dont think it would be a faster car...but, more of a driver.

New oil pump. Makes me think, low oil pressure so they put in a pump. Real issue, thin bearings. I could still go for it if it was a true coupe. I just have a thing about that. Took the top off my Vette once in 4 years. It rained that day.

My neighbor had one of those and I rode with him from Jacksonville to Daytona in it. That engine put out more heat than the AC could keep up with. With the AC blasting I still sweated like a pig the whole trip.

Damn Red, if you want gobs of power and better handling, I'll sell you my '04 C5 for not much more than that. You'd have better handling and be able to walk that Viper with little effort.
And mine only has about 10k on the entire drivetrain and 90k total since I bought her new.

Have a guy locally that is very interested but I haven't sent him pictures/details yet.
I'd be more than comfortable selling it to somebody I know.

It's an animal but very streetable and I just don't have the time to drive her much anymore.

I've had the pleasure and simultaneous displeasure of driving a few of them... short of taking 1 to the track or turning one into what is essentially expensive garage art, there is absolutely no way in hell that I would ever own one.

I love looking at them and there is no denying their cool factor, but for street use they are hands down, without a doubt the most absolutely miserable driving experience of any car I have ever been in. How the hell someone managed to put that many miles on one is beyond me.

The same could be said of several sports cars, including many Corvette models.

If you want comfort, get a big ol' luxury car... ya fat bastards.

I have driven Corvettes of every generation, including an early C4 Z51 as a daily driver and a C5Z with massive sways, stiff coilovers, a hard mounted seat, and an obnoxiously loud exhaust.. There isn't 1 even close to being as miserably uncomfortable as the Gen1 Viper.

Not.

Even.

Take that C4, light a bonfire under your ass, cut the mufflers off, roll the windows down just enough to get an asinine amount of wind noise, and fill a coffee can with pennies to roll around on the floor for good measure.

You just created the perfect Viper simulator.

Or you could do what I found out years ago: Drive a Jaguar. They're comfortable, excellent handling, fast cars. They do not ride and drive like a Lexus 460, in which you feel nothing and hear nothing...everything I hate about a car. You have real road feel and a throaty exhaust.

Many years they tie with Lexus for quality, and they have very good resale value. A base XK has 420 HP. If speed is your object, a super-charged version has 515 HP, enough to smoke most Corvettes and Aston Martins, plus they have the stopping distance of an Porsche. You can also get one with 550 HP.

A new one costs more than the most expnsive Corvette, but you can buy a 3-4 year-old one for the same money (or less) than the Vette.

About the only thing I would add is burning your left calf on that hellacious bonfire as you get out of the damn thing. You only do that once, by the way.

I daily commute approx. 88 miles to and from work. I would be hard-pressed to drive one that distance as a seasonal toy, let alone a daily beater. Damn capable track car, though.
