Let's take a look at your winter resto in progress or completed ones (and we're not talking about 2010 Corvettes), classics.

'90 454SS.
It is somewhat a DD/ son's project. I drive it daily, but it will be my son's first truck. All it really needs is a paint job. I plan on doing some upgrades like a 4L80E transmission and some upgraded suspension parts.
I'll have to post pics when I get home.

Yeah, my piece of shit '72 Vette. Currently engine and trans out. Trans rebuilt, and it is getting the motor out of my 1969 Camaro. I have a 383 on the stand ready to go in the '69 which will be a 4 speed car instead of automatic. I also have a 1981 Harley Wide Glide which is completely apart right now. I get the frame back from the powder coater this week. However, as of this weekend, it all gets put on hold for a couple of months as I go winter in the middle east courtesy of Uncle Sam. Too bad I can't work on my stuff there since the weather over there this time of year is fantastic!

Why do you need a wiring harness? I did a retrofit with the 700 and It really was only a couple wires. I used a vacuum switch, brake light switch and different pressure switch inside the tranny. this controlled the lock up.
What are you doing differently? I'm just asking because I have thought of doing the 700 for the SS instead of the 4L80.

That's what I did. I put a built 700 R-4 in the car with a 3,800 stall lock-up convertor and used a vacuum switch, brake light switch that locks and unlocks the convertor. The convertor locks up about 40 mph and sometimes cruising around town I didn't want it to lock,so I did added a switch in the 12 volt line so I could lock up the convertor when I wanted it to.

Lemmie get this party started.
This is my 1981 Z28, 4 speed 350 (not available in the States in '81), I bought the reproduction window sticker (paper and laminated), original build sheet, owner's manual, protectoplate (warranty card). I'm the third owner, it has 130K kms, with hardly any rust (none when it's finished). All new rubbers and seals, new trunk, new decals from Phoenix Graphix, brand new factory carpet and will have BF Comp T/A raised white. it'll definitely be a head turner especially with a pair of Flowmasters.
When I first got it.

The car had sidepipes when it was for sale and I opted to not buy them with the car for several reasons.
They are loud, they get fumes in the car, you burn your legs, the car had a dual exhaust rear valance and I didn't want to add a filler panel.

Ya my 1999 C5 -- going on 4 years now since I started the motor swap -- I had a few semi-related personal matters and have really lost a lot of my patience for the car.
It did make 618rwhp this year but the fuel pump wasn't enough to handle -- so it needs a new fuel system, as well as replace a few more brand new pulleys.
I'm hoping just a converter change/freshening this winter will be all that is needed to be ready for the 2011 season.

I have my late father's '65 that I will be starting work on again this year. He bought it new and most things are original. It's in good shape (he did the engine and frame work and I painted it and a few other things before he died). The short list is rewiring it, pulling the body to reshim one mount, and redo the suspension. At that point, I'll feel safe driving on the lovely roads in Michigan.

I've got a 69 'vette roadster, New ZZ4 350, rebuilt TH400 with a 2500 torque converter, dual Spal fans. I have replaced the steering with the power steering box from a Grand Cherokee, and rebuilt all 4 of the disk brakes.
Currently it sits with the dashboard out of it. I started to replace the heater core and found that all of the AC duct works was cracked and the seals were leaking, the evaporator was toast and even when it wasn't leaking didn't work very good down here in South Texas. So I decided that I am going to replace the whole unit with a Hot Rod Air kit. It is a much smaller and better working package. A guy up in Houston had one in his BB C3 and it would frost your balls.
The only problem is that I am physically incapable of doing the work need to do to finish it and I can't afford to hire someone to do it. So it's been sitting for 5 years. :leaving:

And now, for some "not so success" stories.
Bought this 69 Camaro convertible for $200 in the mid 90's completely disassembled. The bare tub was up on jackstands, frame stripped down, rearend out. I sandblasted the frame, welded in new mounts, rebuilt the whole suspension with all new parts and bushings. I got a 396 big block, had a nice TH350 built and bought a parts car that had NOS door skins, fenders, and floor/trunk pans. I had every part to rebuild the car except for the top, windshield and carpet, plus the motor needed a rebuild.
I threw it on ebay in 2000 with all my spare parts and got $4,500 for it when I decided I was in over my head for the money I had at the time. I knew I was going to need another $10,000 in paint and motor work so off it went.

Another failed project,
I bought this 75 for $1,700 in 1994. I drove the crap out of it as a daily driver for four or five years until it developed a rod rap. I pulled the motor and decided to swap in a big block. I rebuilt the tranny, swapped in a 454 and all the correct BB parts. While I was doing that, I decided to strip the paint. I also decided to fix all the body mounts. It turned into a giant project. I pulled the 454 and swapped in a 350 to make a track car out of it. It ended up having a severely rotted rocker channel, burned wiring harness and horribly bondo stuffed quarters. Once I got the carpet out, I saw that the car had been cut in half, right across the middle of the body. It was two vettes grafted together. I got pretty deep into and said, "screw this". I stripped it and parted it out once I was able to stand back and make an honest assessment of how much work it needed. By stripping it, I was able to get the parts I needed to finish another 75 and my 70.

I'm debating on pulling the running gear out of my Nova and swapping it in there. Currently, it runs and drives with a 350/th350 and a 10 bolt rear end. All of the metal work was done, but it needs everything else.

If it was my car, I'd sell the rear spoiler, use the money to buy a grille, rattle can the whole car in black and put some old slotted mags or torque thrusts on it.
That is basically how my 67 looked. I wouldn't swap drivetrains until I had an interior in it. That interior is just terrible.

It looks worse in person. Rattle canning the car with some vintage wheels is a good idea. It would give it a little curb appeal.

Some really nice vehicles in here. And if I was going to have a Camaro, this is exactly how I'd want mine. '69 SS/RS was one of the most beautiful designs ever and this one is just stunning.
I think for my next vehicle, I'd like to do a Pro/Touring Challenger, Charger or Cuda. :yesnod:

!971 Dodge Charger Super Bee. 383 Magnum just rebuilt. New clutch, suspension overhaul, Koni shocks, new exhaust. Most of the work left is to pull apart the interior to put in some soundproofing, insulation and a new wiring harness.

Yes, but I'd lose the rear spoiler. On the 69, I really like the spoiler, but on the 67 and 68, it makes the car look weird. I'll have to NNYL8 my scanner later and find some pics of my beater 67.

The motor going in has a Dart Little M block bored/stroked to 408 ci, with miniram intake, AFR heads, all of which are completely professionally ported, polished, etc. Comp cam is a custom grind.

Also going in are a s-load of parts - Carolina Clutch, Dewitts aluminum radiator, Movit big brake kit, LT headers, etc...too much to name here. Looking forward to being done someday and driving the piss out of it. Will post finished product pics...sometime this year...

One of the guys I race with has some obscene stash of NOS Boss 302 parts. I wasn't even aware of it until a mutual friend said he went to his garage and about fell over when he saw how many rare/obscure parts he had.
Growing up in the 70's-80's there was a beautiful orange one parked at the post office all the time and then it disappeared. A few years ago I was doing a mortgage for a retired postal worker and found out it was his car and he still had it, stashed away in his garage.
PS, your wife has a problem. :D

Ya think? I'm not going to post the extent on an open forum, but she does need something like AA for car collectors.
Your friend has some serious money sitting there. I can't believe how much it costs to restore a Boss correctly. I think an air cleaner is worth $1500.

I have been there. At one point, I had 5 Thunderbird TurboCoupes, 2 Camaro convertibles, a 75 Trans Am, a 75 Stingray, a 72 Plymouth Satellite, and an 86 Dodge Truck. I finally just got sick of never ending projects and sold everything but the truck and the 75 vette. I used the money to buy an 88 C4 coupe. I then picked up a 98 coupe, and then a 71 LTD, and then a 70 coupe, and then another 75 coupe. Before I knew it I had too many cars again.
I sold the LTD and the two 75 coupes last year and got down to three cars: my truck, the 98 and the 70. Then I bought a Miata so I am back to 4. :D
Its a terrible sickness!

Ok, now that's just not right. :)
Sometimes I see people get infatuated with weird vehicles and sink insane money into them.
My brother's neighbor had one of these he had started to restore, a Granada Ghia with a factory 351 Windsor.
http://images2.carsforsale.com/306202/A3AC9562-5DCE-4909-8146-0C0F74AE7AC7_1.jpg
One day a dump truck towing a big tractor lost the trailer and the trailer flipped over and the tractor landed square on the Granada, flattening it. The truck crew freaked out, loaded everything back up and took off. When the guy got home he had no idea what happened and no one got the plate on the truck.

Ouch. As much as I don't like Granadas, I hate for stuff like that to happen to anyone.
It's already restored, but I want to do some motorwork to it...it needs a bigger cam and some more horsepower. :)
