I'm getting me a fire extinguisher

for my daily drivers. I was following four cars on a two lane highway yesterday. An oncoming toyota shot across the lane and hit a van head on. I was the third vehicle behind the van, fairly close as we were being held up by a slow log truck. The first vehicle behind the van swerved fast to the right allowing the second vehicle enough visibility to react and she locked her brakes and got to the side of the road. I was able to safely pull over. No other traffic around at the time.

The Toyota engine compartment caught on fire. A county deputy had an extinguisher and put it out. Then the Van had a fire and there were three passengers. I was consoling the driver and got hit in the face with a fire extinguisher blast that slowed the fire down. They got her out of the car but the fire continued.

The fire started back in the toyota. I got a used extinguisher from a trucker. I got that fire out but the van kept burning. We watched it build and there were tow more passengers. No extinguishers. Two people inside. It became totally engulfed.

I don't know if the two passengers, two elderly women were alive or not. I hope not.

I never heard anything from them. I hate thinking they could have been saved had there been enough good extinguishers there.

Sadly those little ones are useless. You need to have a huge one if you hope to put out an actual fire.

:rofl: While I likely never will buy a Toyota. This hardly sounds like a minor accident, like those that doomed 2 of the Teslas (1st and 3rd), the 2nd accident was a bit more than a minor accident.

Yes cars carry flammable Gas and other materials, it's reasonable to assume a minor accident won't ignite those materials, Tesla unfortunately has proven the materials they use are not sufficiently protected.

thanks. don't know what made the car veer like that. I can only speculate. There were no skid marks on the pavement, no gouges in the pavement. It really happened too fast for anyone to see if the attitude of the toyota was not level.

It was horrendous. The van turned 180 degrees exactly where it has hit while flipping over on its roof. The Toyota spun to the shoulder exactly where they impacted. I tried to rouse the driver of the toyota. I went around and a pretty young lady was laying against the door. her eyes were open, I looked at her eyes and said "Ma'am are you awake, can you blink your eyes". Nothing there.
