Customer pulls up today to drop off some equipment, we get to talking and the subject of government came up. We got to talking about the president, healthcare, welfare, and then food stamps..and I made the comment that "food stamps should be pulled back and all but eliminated..because people abuse them.

He barked back that "Hey, im on food stamps and welfare, be nice...its a hard life, you dont know me, you cant judge me:"

Now...You have to keep in mind here, this is a guy in his mid 30's...about 6 foot 3, slim, in what appeared to be great health..he lifted a 150lb mower out of his brand new Silverado pickup, and carried it a few feet..without so much as a hint of knee or back troubles. He was wearing nice Fubu cloths. Had a couple gold chains on..and a really nice set of wheels and a system in his new truck. Now, I know its in poor taste to judge..but..I couldnt for the life of me figure out why someone in such good health, in the prime of thier life..with such nice new EXPENSIVE toys...would be on food stamps and welfare..unless they have manipulated the system...right?

Bingo.

On paper he is poor. Thus, qualifies for munchie tickets. Allows him to spend his cash on toys while we feed his sorry ass. I fight back, I pay as little taxes as legally possible.

OK, I will. I tired and mad as hell that people are abusing the system.

I think if you draw benefits ( other than retirement ), you should give up your right to vote since it's obviously a conflict of interest ( ie, BUYING votes with govt funded programs )

A little business advice, RED, don't discuss politics with customers. No matter what, you've got about a 50/50 chance of pissing them off.

I liek to talk to my customers, some of my closest customers are ones Ive debated important issues with, we keep it short, sweet and respectful...always.

We dont always agree on things, but its good to know where people stand, and I think that it strengthens the Customer/business bond and makes it just a little personal. Ive never lost a customer like this...and even this guy..im fixing his stuff, and we came to an agreement...we dont see eye to eye on gov subsidies...

Assets don't count for foodstamps...only income.
Guy could own his house and that new truck outright and have a shit-ton in retirement accounts and qualify for food stamps.
It's the new American Dream

Yea I know. Still, we've become far too accepting of lazy a-holes living off the hard work of the non-parasites. They should be made fun of every chance we get.
