Finished helping my son on his home addition plumbing and HVAC this weekend. We had the heating running on aux heaters for a couple weeks but electrician finally ran power to the outside unit so we could finish piping and start up the heat pump.

And this afternoon we went ahead and set the fixtures except for the lav, the granite top has not arrived. But he got to try out the new 1.5 gallon flush.

The toilet he bought at Sam's has 2 flush rates, one button for #1 and
, another button for #2. Now isn't that nice and green.

All that's left is the carpet which was delayed by the bad weather in Atlanta, or at least that was the excuse.

It was a fun project.

Very tidy work! Can you not get 3.5 gal. toilets at all? I replaced mine in 2000, when the 1.5 gal. rule was already in effect, but the dealer said all I had to do was say they were for commercial use.

I don't think so. Used ones are quite valuable at the salvage yards.

The alternative that I used when we built our house is a pressure flush type. They work really good but are around $300.00. The city water fills a presssure tank where it is stored at aprox 50 psi with an air space on top.The lever trips a snap open valve that lets 1.5 gallons blast down the drain opening.

A little noisy, we always have to warn guest that the toilet is "different".

But the newer 1.5 gallon gravity flush bowls are made different and work somewhat better than just putting a 1.5 gallon tank on like the origional designs.

I wanted to swap the toilets in our new house for the 5 (I think) gallon jobs I had in my old house. I HATE 1.5s and the plumbers that work around here do NOT look like the chick on TV. I have poured blue cleaner in the water and flushed it and I SWEAR the water still has some blue in it afterward.

1.5 gallons.. HA, I have eaten a mexican dinner and DISPLACED more water than that.
