Local car dealer is giving a free shotgun with a purchase of a new or used vehicle. Remington, no other info. Anyone want to try and explain the reasoning? Why a shotgun with purchase?
Got your attention didn't it. More than saying $500 off.

There have been a number of car dealers doing this. The publicity they get is worth way more than just offering a rebate/ discount for the same amount. There was a bank out west somewhere that for years offered a Weatherby rifle in lieu of interest on a CD. You got the rifle up front but agreed to pay a penalty if you cashed out the CD before maturity. They ran the ad for that for years

Somehow I am on their e-mailing list. That info is in the e-mail title.
Free shotgun with vehicle purchase at John Jones AutoGroup
Considering the hooplah over guns these days, offerings such as this are obvious attention whoring.
Personally, when I buy something, I want the lowest price, period. Period. This should be especially important for folks who are financing. Do you really want to finance that gun for what, 4-5 years? Because that's what it works out to, if you choose to accept the gun as part of the deal, rather than hammer out the lowest possible price with no extras.

They know when you buy a new car, you'll run around shooting off your mouth about how great the deal was.

This. :yesnod:
Some gunophobe sees the advertisement and runs around like Chicken Little telling 500 people about the car dealership handing out weapons of mass destruction to children. Voila! Now five hundred more people have heard about that dealership.
The gunophobes' reactions are so predictable, retailers are starting to use it for their own gain.

Local gun store always seems to have a car for sale in the parking lot and the sign days, free shotgun with the car purchase. I guess its common.:cert:

I was thinking maybe they were trying to make money off the anti-Obama people. The .gov is going to take away guns. Get one free right here. with purchase of a vehicle.

Fairly common actually. You can either get the voucher for the gun, or something like an additional $300 rebate.

Don't laugh too much... Remington Rand (the typewriter company, as opposed to Remington the gun company) made guns as well during WWII. In fact, 1 of the favorites of my collection is a 1943 RR. :yesnod:
