There was a great article in the paper about my cousin when she was in college. She taught a deaf pit bull sign language, and her mom still has the dog.

Yeh, well, could have been any breed, and so the stats are in on pits, they are greatly preferred by some segments of society, and so when you see one, time to take defensive posture.....

get set to pull out your gun.....

CASE CLOSED@@!!!!!

Scooter, the stray dog that I have now is part pit bull. One of the sweetest dogs to anyone he meets ever. Any aggressiveness is attributable to how they are raised...period.

We have 3 rescues that are mixed. One (DJ) was in horrible conditions. He was at a house that was searched on 4/25 for drugs and guns. Absolutely filthy conditions. No one was home. Him and another dog there were taken to CACC. No arrests were ever made and on 5/20 they were considered abandoned. Which means no one could do anything with them for a month so 24/7 in a cage. :( On 6/11 they were evaluated and the other dog that live with him was deemed too aggressive, so he was euthanized. (probably explains DJ's scars) he was rescued beginning of July by Hope Rescues.

They put the dogs down? That's extreme, isn't it? Why didn't they see if someone would adopt them or give then to a rescue shelter?

The dog has an innate nature (AND the ability) to react violently - moreso than almost any other breed - regardless of how it is raised.

Scoff away. It's fact. YOU look it up. I'm not taking the time to defend myself. I'm right.

:) Love you guys. lol

Because the damn dogs were nasty as hell, not me, Larry, ANY of the group could ever come close to those dawgs, one time they almost attacked Larry....someone who had been friends for years....who in hell would adopt something like that?? people can be nutz over dawgs, but not survive THAT nutz.....:issues:

Don't take an expert to post semi-coherently either, but you're challenged with this constantly

You guys will think I'm nuts, but...when any of you lose a dog (that you've posted pics of a number of times on the forum), I get sad, too. When Mochi passed, I cried. You get glimpses into their lives and get sort of 'attached' when you are used to seeing them, and then all of a sudden they are gone...

Awww dangitall, tearing up...

Wow, absolutely gorgeous dogs, so glad they got a good home and are thriving. :seasix:

My friend with 2 GS (one recently passed) were both rescues in some way. Anya was a pound puppy, Lexie was in a home where she was basically abandoned (left in the house for a week or so by herself). :(

I have to say that my friend hit the lottery with those dogs. So smart, took to their Schutzhund training so well, and were so sweet to everyone...you'd have no idea about their pasts, the way they treated people. They both would be so happy with whatever you gave them, it didn't matter if it was a little or a lot. Gotta love rescues. :yesnod:

Thank you. :) I agree, all they want is attention and affection.

Sorry for your friends' GS. :sadangel:

My personal take on pits is this... not that anybody cares (or should). In all reality, this extends to quite a few breeds that are deemed "mean" or "aggressive".

I have been around a lot of them in my life. Most likely not as many as say, Thomas, but enough to form a fairly significant picture of them. As said, the unquestionable factor is how they are raised. I will leave those that are raised to be aggressive out of this discussion. As "family" pets, if raised correctly they can absolutely be wonderful, incredibly loyal dogs who seem to be for the most part exceptionally good with children. I know more than a few people who have pits and pit mixes that are some of the most awesome dogs you will ever meet.

Now comes my problem with them. Dogs will be dogs, and unless you are that Caesar guy (or Thomas) on occasion if you have multiple dogs, they will get rambunctious and every so often and most likely they will snap at each other at some point. With the vast majority of breeds, when they do, it is completely insignificant and nothing more than maybe a low growl and maybe a nip. I have never had dogs of mine get into a fight to the point where 1 was "seriously" injured. For the sake of argument I use the word "serious" to mean anything requiring a trip to the vet. This is over the course of owning quite a few labs, a LOT of random mutts, a big golden retriever, beagles, little yappy mofos... you name it, we had it running around at some point.

On the other hand, with the bull breeds, and I am talking about VERY well raised, non-aggressive, awesome family pet types of dogs, my experience has been that if 1 of those little nips DOES happen, it tends to go very bad very quickly. as opposed to maybe a low growl or at worst a little nip, they will instead give a bite with absolutely no intention of letting go. They are so damn powerful that when that happens, there is going to be some serious damage done. It's almost as if they somehow revert to a fighting instinct. While I have seen it happen with multiple bulls, all of which were well raised, "family" dogs that I don't think would ever harm a person, I have never seen it out of any other breed. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe not.

Do I speak for all of them in generalizations? No, of course not. I don't have any problem with anybody who chooses to own them. I certainly don't think they should be illegal or anything of that nature, but especially if I have other dogs around, I personally would never get one myself.
