Hint: Car is on a flatbed in front of dealer.
Update: bad fuel pump as I suspected.
The car was my grandpa's. My mother then owned it until she passed away last December. My grandpa owned it for two years and put 1348 miles on it. When I inherited it in December it had 19,402 miles on it and hadn't been driven in 2-3 years and only started occasionally by me. The car has sentimental value to me and there are not very many original third generation Camaros around now.
One of my other cars needed service, so I pulled this one out of storage on short notice to drive for a couple of days and give it some exercise. It ran great until it didn't. Hence, the picture in front of the dealer's service center.
Good thread....lots of detail. Would read again.

Kind of posted the picture in a humorous manner. There isn't a whole lot else to do while sitting in the dealer's waiting room waiting to find out the details. I haven't driven it in a couple of years, so I learned the hard way that garage queens sometimes are not fun.

Wow, tough crowd. Even Gozar showed up and he usually doesn't participate in any thread that doesn't involve hell-raising gas.

I've had to replace two fuel tanks and pumps in my '89 IROC due to sitting in the garage and never being driven. :leaving:

Nice find on CL! I haven't seen fake knock off wire wheels on a Camaro in forever :slap: Are you fixing it for your landscaper? :confused5:

:iagree: Also for taking a car that's older then the mechanics, to a dealer.

Real wire wheels. And no, my landscaper drives a pickup. The Camaro belonged to my grandfather and has sentimental value. He put the wires on it.

No, I was still a little shaken from the car breaking down on a busy street and having to wait for a tow truck and missing a doctor's appointment. I foolishly thought that it might add some humor to a stressful situation to post a picture of it on a flatbed in front of the dealer's service area. I thought the picture would be somewhat self-explanatory. I was wrong. Like I said, I was stressed out. Not that anyone here knows what that is like....

I reckon those people are like model builders. They just want something to set on a shelf and look at. Not my thing but somebody's gotta do it.
All the models I built got blown up. Haven't blown any of my cars yet but that's not from lack of trying

I wouldn't be that sentimental to keep the wheels

By all means keep them, they just look like hell on an otherwise very nice car

Just the fuel pump and old gas which won't be going back in the tank. I am having them change out all the fluids while it is there. I had planned to do that this fall anyways.

Don't pay any attention to me Chad, I just had a bad day and am still a little touchy. Ordinarily, I would agree with you, but for some reason I have always liked the wires on this car.

Great looking Camaro. It's awesome that you are keeping it and taking care of it. It is really hard to find a 3rd Gen in great shape these days.

Cars need to be driven every now and then or they get "Lot Rot"
Another reason why dealers drop them off at auctions if they sit too long.
Great looking car! :seasix:

I'll bet the weather-strips in great shape, too. Same O.E.M. supplier as the C-4, right?

Beautiful car. Not a fan of the wheels either, but I also understand why you've kept them. I love the Gen III Camaros. I bought an '83 F41 Coupe in '96 with 33k miles on it. The lady said when she bought it she wanted a Z28 with no stripes so the dealer ordered her a car. DSO sheet showed a total of 63 options. It had almost every option except t-tops, power seat, and aluminum wheels. 305 H.O., AOD trans, F41 Performance suspension, custom interior (cloth seats, door panels, kick panels, sail panels), rear spoiler, Delco Bose cassette, gauge package, tilt, cruise, power windows-locks-hatch-antenna, and lots more. When I sold it years later it had just turned 60k miles. Only things I changed were stereo and wheels (several times). Finally settled on a set of '89 IROC SPC aluminum wheels. Loved that car and kinda wish I still had it. Had several since then but none as clean or original.
My grandpa had a '59 Lesabre. I remember when he bought it in 1965. I begged my mom to keep that car and let me have it when he passed in 1969 for when I turned 16 (in 1977) but she sold it off in '75, saying it was just an old car and I wouldn't want it then anyway. I still dream of finding it one day, but I am sure it's long gone.
Keep your Camaro and treasure it always. You could replace it with another one, but it would never be the same.
Again, beautiful car.

You must know them well then. They don't call them stealerships for nothing. :yesnod:
Personally, I've been gouged, lied to, and screwed by them, and they never even bought me dinner....bastards! Never again, and especially for a car that was new when most of the technicians weren't even born yet. :toetap:

Thank you. You wrote my exact sentiments better than I ever could. :seasix:
I will never sell this car. The reason I don't drive it much is that I could never replace it if anything happened to it. I own and have owned in the past several cars that were worth much more than this one, but I never worried about anything happening to them. They could be easily replaced.

Indeed, I have known them all my life. My cousin owns the dealership which used to belong to my uncle and my grandpa before that and my great-grandpa before that. The Camaro was a part of my grandpa's collection and a favorite of his. The folks there seem to treat me pretty well.
