My wife put a maximum bid for something she wanted on Ebay. There was one other person bidding and their max was hit early. Nothing was happening with bid but that person came back and bid once more. My wifes bid overtook it.
A little before the auction was over, someone came in and bid close but not over my wife's Max bid. Could a seller possibly do that just before the bid is up to get close to the max bid?

A lot of people will wait until the final few minutes/seconds to actually bid. Plus, the seller doesn't know your max bid.

A lot of e-bay buyers use "scalping" software that allows the bidder to enter a maximum bid and won't trigger bidding until the last few seconds of the auction. It's automated and doesn't play your hand until the bidding is about to close.

Bidnapper's free sniper software delivers bids to eBay auctions at the last moment in a process called "sniping."

I thought the seller knew your max bid. That makes me feel better.
Sounds like bidnapper is a good tool, what do you think?
I've used esnipe for a long time. Find an auction, put in your max bid, go do something useful, come back and see if you won.

Definitely not (selling a few items on ebay right now). There's no way for the seller or any other bidders to know what your max bid is.
Now I have seen where someone will bid some crazy number, then retract their bid. Their crazy high bid will go over your max, letting them know what it is. Then they'll place a bid just under yours, to get the maximum from the auction. I always cancel my bids on those to avoid the games some play.
Never used any of the bid sniper programs, though I hear they work well. I just set the timer on my phone a few minutes early & use the ebay phone app FTW.

The seller does not see your bid just for that reason.
But I have used the sniper tool often in the past to sneak up and do my bidding.
It is kinda fun to be hitting refresh at the end trying to do it yourself, but with slow internet I have often lost items that I really wanted.

:iagree: Here's how I do it. Find the item you are interested in and save it in your "watch list". If it has a Buy It Now option, just put in a low bid to remove that ( unless of course it's what you consider to be a deal , buy it )
Entering your bid is a two step process. I put in my best and final bid with about 2 minutes to go in the auction. Hit the enter button ONCE to get to the first part. It still takes one more "enter" to finalize your bid. I wait until there are 7 or 8 seconds to go before I hit "enter" to put in my bid.
If I win, life is good :hurray: If I got outbid, I got somebody to spend more money :D
No good reason to put bids in earlier. All it does is drive the final price up. ( good for the seller, bad for the buyer )
