that we heard on The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman?

Especially that rink-a-dinka-dinka-dinka-dinka sound when they were throwing something at the bad guys... or that PUMB-bumb-bumb-bumb-bumb-bumb-bumb sound when the object hit the bad guys.

I think the 6 million dollar man sound, was the sounds from the bottom end of a vega on hard acceleration....

I had the spring on my garage door break one time and I swear that's the sound it made.

Moog Synthesizer

or ARP which was also real popular at the time.

Trivia: In the last big scene of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, at the mountain, the synthesizer used there is a custom ARP, and was being played by the engineer that designed it! :hurray:

How did Chevy Chase make that "nuh nuh nuh nuh kah kah kah kah" noise on Caddy Shack?

I can replicate the sound of Han Solo's blaster by rapping the garage door spring at my parent's house with a screw driver or pair of wire pliers. Ben Burrt would be proud. Sounds just like that mofo! :seasix:

just found this:

the ARP 2500 was featured in the hit movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind; ARP's Vice President of Engineering, Phillip Dodds, was sent to install the unit on the movie set and was subsequently cast as Jean Claude, the musician who played the now famous 5-note sequence on the huge synthesizer in an attempt to communicate with the alien mothership.

Those are the real sounds made by the tiny servos and hydraulic cylinders being actuated in the bionic body parts.:leaving:

I think the 6 million dollar man sound, was the sounds from a Pinto being rear ended....

Production

(note: this information is in need of corroboration) While Universal was known in the 70's for recycling stock footage and sounds, Charles King, the Sound Designer for the shows, is reported to have braced a metal ruler or yardstick on the edge of a table, pulling and releasing the extended end, then slowing the resultant sound to 25%.

True. The laser sounds for the film were actually made by striking radio tower guy wires with various intensity, recorded and played back at different speeds/volume.

Pretty effective.

Yup. I've seen the video. Plus, the organic sound FX sound cooler than most of the synthesized stuff, IMO.
