I'm thinking about buying one as I restore my new CT70 mini bike.
What type of cabinet should I be looking for, and what type of media is best? Lots of little parts and pieces have rust I'd like to clean off before repainting. Some of them aren't available, particularly those needed to make it street legal.
Who sells them?
I already have a 5gal compressor.

Cabinet? I thought the answer was to use Fema tarps near your property edge.

5 Gallons wont even come close..it will be empty after 10 seconds. Sand blasters are essentially "open hoses"...so there is a huge demand for air.
Ive used a cheap hopper style unit from hf, i think i paid 20 dollars for it and its worked great, i just put on a leather apron, a face shield, and some goggles and blast away with my 70 gallon unit.
Ive never liked cabinets, never enough light, and useless once the glass etches, and the gloves make my arms sweat...

Well, if cabinets suck, and I've got to buy a new compressor, would I just be better off with sandpaper and steel wool for this project?

Prolly be better off taking it to a pro, having it blasted, and have them powdercoat the frame, rims, etc...
I had my 1962 Wheel Horse 702 Blasted 10 years ago...it was way easier than when I blasted my Deere 316 myself.

Cabinets don't suck. They are great for small parts, but it will be pretty expensive for you to get the right equipment to operate one. Is there a local place you could take the parts for blasting? Sand paper and steel wool would be a pain in the azz, and not nearly as good for stripping old paint and rust.

Just checked, and there is a local company that advertises media blasting and powder coating. They're licensed and insured.
I'll just let them do it.

If you want to blast the media, I suggest you begin with CNN, NBC and MSNBC.

I've had my cabinet from Harbor Freight for over 10 years.
Restored my '69 Z/28, built a '57 Chevy truck with a '87 Corvette drive train and suspension, blasted lots of parts for mowers and lots of projects.
Everything that would fit in the cabinet got blasted.
It gets used several times a month by myself or my wife who does craft stuff.
Still works perfectly.
I have a dedicated 10 gallon shop vac that is always attached and ready to go.
My 30 gallon 6.0 hp struggles to keep up, and 80 gallon would be nice.
I use glass beads for most of my blasting, walnut shells for plastic.

Have a detailed inventory of parts and have them sign off on it. Some of those parts are expensive to replace :yesnod:
