I buy $200k of life insurance through work.
My company gives me $693 towards it, but it costs $1248 per year, so I pay $555 a year out of my own pocket for it. The cost has skyrocketed in the last few years, so I went online and shopped.
I was just approved for $200k through ING for $511.00 per year for 20 years.
I'll get another $50k through work to supplement that. It will cost $312, but they give me $693, a difference of $381, which I can use toward my medical plan.
I had to have a nurse come over and take my BP, and two vials of blood. They wanted to know my driving record and stuff like that, but it was well worth the pita...
I should have done this two years ago when the price mysteriously doubled...

Why term insurance? You won't even be 70-years old in 20 years, not usually death material at that age.

I'll be dead ½ through restoring my barn.
Pffftt, who am I kidding? I'll probably be 70 by then.
I'm 49 and it's kickin' my ass.:D

Covers your family though your prime earning years and helps cover things until any kids are grown and on their own (hopefully). It makes sense as part of a comprehensive plan

Under that reasoning, don't you think you'd need $500K-$1M?

Ya, I do. I'm going to probably see what it would cost on Monday and adjust accordingly. Now that all the BS is done, and I know it's legit, and like the price, I'm going to just upgrade a bit. :yesnod:

You should also look for long term care policys now. They are much cheaper at your age than waiting till you are 55.

Ya I will. My parents have one so I think that I'll ask them to take a look at theirs first, so that I have an idea of what I'm talking about.

According to the statistics, a miniscule number of people die accidentally.

Did you know that I carry?

It was cheap, so why not? Five bucks a month cheap.
It's a double indemnity too, if I'm dismembered in any way. What are the odds of that?
Even less
