F- Comcast.
One of thier customer service douches called me a liar right over the phone. So I cancelled the service.

Ordered Verizon high-speed. Verizon is telling me 16 days to "condition and permission" the line. 16 days?
They couldn't tell me why it took that long, so I figured I'd ask here what could take that long.

anyone?

No clue but I have their services (not Fios) too. Its OK but not as fast as the cable company was.

yeah. I know DSL isn't as speedy as Cable. I opted for the 1.5MBps to 3MBps package.
but since all I do online is surf the internet (no movies, music, or games) I should be fine.

I think they lied to you. You should drop them and go back to Comcast.

DSL uses the old telephone lines, I am sure it is getting harder to find DSL quality lines from their central office to the house. The farther away your house is from the central office, the longer it will take to install and test. Marginal quality lines will result in slow or no connection, they probably will have to go from point to point hooking up and testing cables but that shouldn't take 16 days. Another factor is the companies have agreements to rent each others cables which includes how long they have to respond to service agreements etc and some companies wait until the last minute to respond which causes delays for us.

At my home, a Cox cable sub contractor broke my cable. Over the phone Cox tried to get me to say Verizon broke the cable, I told them it was their guys that broke it. They went so far to have a guy come to my house with documentation stating it was Verizon and wanted me to sign it and was taken pictures, questioning me about the breakage. I basically asked him what was going on and I was told Cox is loosing a lot of business to Verizon and they try to charge outages to Verizon. Long story short, a lot of the providers are not playing well together which could cause delays in you getting connection.
