GRAND COUNTY, Utah — A man is due back in court on Tuesday to face assault charges after police say he attacked his own father and allegedly tried to kill him when he discovered his wife on top of his father in their son’s bedroom.
According to police reports, it happened after a family dinner at suspect T.J. Brewer’s home, where the adults were drinking heavily. (shocking)
Brewer, 33, is a 12-year veteran of the Moab, Utah, sheriff’s office. His father was fire chief since 1989, but resigned after this July 11th domestic violence incident.
According to reports, after the family dinner, Brewer’s wife went upstairs to put one of their kids to bed. A while later, T.J., went upstairs to find his wife.
Deseret News reports that Brewer found his son’s bedroom door locked but managed to get in, and found his father and wife in bed together.
T.J. reportedly started beating up his father, Corky, then went to get a gun. Meanwhile, Corky went to his own house to get a gun. At some point while he was gone, Corky stabbed himself with a butcher knife, slicing his liver and puncturing his lung.
Then, T.J. tried to go find his father in the hospital to ‘finish the job’. When he was stopped by police, he allegedly assaulted an officer.
He is also accused of pistol-whipping his wife when he found them together.
Initially T.J. Brewer was booked into the San Juan County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, among other allegations. The charges actually filed were assault and assault of a police officer.
The Utah Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case to avoid conflicts of interest since the Brewer family has extensive ties to law enforcement, emergency services and local government.
