I am looking at getting a new key fob from an auction site. They sellers say that they need to be programmed by a dealer or a locksmith. There are instructions all over the web for DYI. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Mike

One vendor said the Corvette is the only car that can be self programmed.

Thanks,
Mike

They are easily programmable, in fact the procedure is listed in the owner's manual.

Just be sure you buy the correct one for your car, as there are four types:

1997-1999
2000
2001-2004 (numbered either 1 or 2 for memory feature).

C-6 fobs are a little different,My dealer had problems and had to keep my car two days while the GM rep called to help.
