This is a wild story about a guy that worked for me about 8 years ago, and still works in my building.
Bottom line is he defended his family and property from two armed robbers, shot them, and won't be charged.
Way to go John!! :hurray:

I read the article and the incident does raise questions:

1. Why aren't both assailants dead?
2. Was the caliber used sufficient?
3. Was the homeowner's firearm loaded with FMJ or JHP ammunition?
4. How many center mass hits did the homeowner score?
5. Should the homeowner have finished them off with an ax or sword?
6. Can someone shoot the perpetrator's friends, too, as a crime-prevention measure?

1) Good question
2) 9mm, see question #1
3) Good question
4) One guy chest is in critical, one guy thigh is ok....Dammit
5) No, he should have backed his SUV over them a few times
6) That would solve a lot of problems :yesnod:

...or the maggot reporter who clearly has a problem with shooting "poor defenseless" criminals

"Duty to retreat." Give me a f'n break.

It blows my mind that anyone would have a problem with robbers getting shot. Too bad he didn't kill both of them. Hopefully him and his family are doing okay after all this.

:iagree: I hope that John's family doesn't suffer financially or mentally due to this incident. Him and his boys are good , hard working people, just trying to get ahead in life.

Was just walking the dog. Heard banging on sheet metal from the direction of my shop. Walked toward the shop, pulled my pistol, looked about. Nope, noise coming from next property over. Gun back in holster. Finish walking dog.

The sad aspect of this is that unless NY has some law against it, he is likely to have a Civil Lawsuit on his hands. :(

I kinda feel like I've got a duty...to myself, to retreat, I really don't want to shoot someone, but once I've found cover, if the dude(s) does anything other than run for his own life...I'm going to start shooting.

Just fine.

Gun in hand pointed at ground. Could be on target in about 1/2 sec. One handed. You don't always have both hands available. I shoot fine one handed. How I learned.

Homeowner defends himself in his own yard, and the state and media have to pick it apart looking for any tidbit of blame that they can place on the homeowner, who is the victim here.

If the homeowner had been killed, it would have barely been a news item.
And the whole attitude of the state and media would have been; tsk-tsk, find those bad men and lock them up for a couple of years.

So why shouldn't every criminal out there run rampart? The state has basically made self defense the crime, and perpetuating a real crime has become a game of catch-me-if-you-can.

Funny how someone can choose to rob people, but yet it is the victim's fault if the robber's actions cause harm to the robber

The state attorney is going to take this to the grand jury? :wtf: Why? This should be an open and shut case based on the law stated by that defense attorney.

Because we are talking New York and no States Attorney wants to be seen as being light on prosecuting gun crimes under the current state administration. How else is he/she supposed to promote themselves within the machine of party politics?

How To Avoid Being Shot While Trying to Rob Someone:

Step #1: Don't try to rob people.
Step #2: Repeat step #1.

I get ya. I would honestly probably try to talk my way out of a situation first or get out w/no physical confrontation.

BUT if push comes to shove, their life ends before mine or my family's. :yesnod:

Not much to discuss here other than maybe how traumatic it was to the victims.

Good deal. I often wonder how difficult it would be after having to kill somebody.
I'm hoping I'll never find out, but I'm ready to do so if I have to.

I made it to the completely erroneous Zimmerman reference. I can't handle that kind of ignorance.

Yeah, but I thought this comment was funny.......

"But this also wasn’t a case of an unarmed 17-year-old with iced tea and Skittles being shot after minding his own business."

Nor was the Trayvon Martin case.

So now, every time a lawful gun owner caps a criminal, its going to be compared to Trayvon Martin?
