She had a stroke a year and a half ago, is totally disabled and will likely spend the rest of her days in a nursing home as she needs full time care.

While visiting her over the week-end, she asked me to get her some cotton candy if I happened to remember. I got her some and dropped it off later.

Today, she had a Dr. appointment, I met her there and asked how she liked the cotton candy. She said that it wasn't for her, that several of the residents were taken to a minor league ball game here and the woman sitting next to her brightened up when the cotton candy vendor came by. The woman said she would like to get some to give to her granddaughter, but it was too expensive.

As soon as she got the candy, my sister wheeled herself to the lady's room with the gift. I guess you don't have to have a lot to make a difference in someone else's life.

Way to go, Sis.

:seasix: You are right. Simple things can make someone's day.

When my father had his stroke in 2000 we were forced to put him in the nursing home. While visiting, I noticed that they had Mardi Gras activities. I was slightly surprised because this was in upstate NY and we never observed the "holiday" when I lived there. I got the name of the activities director and sent up a big box of beads and decorations every year. I'm told they had fun with them but I enjoyed seeing what happened with the beads during the rest of the year.

Quite a lot of the ladies wore them as jewelry all year round. Especially the gold, silver and pearl strands.

It's almost impossible to have nice things in that setting. So much gets stolen or never gets returned from the laundry. Plastic Mardi Gras beads have no monetary value really so they were safe from theft and the ladies felt dressed up with their jewelry. Win-win. :yesnod:
