Ah, must have been a "we gotta have one more here" call.

Half of dogs may be quiet but they are also some of the biggest breeds out there.

When they bark shit tends to fall off the walls.

Is there a dog that is quiet, doesn't shed, doesn't drool and wipes it's own ass?

We have a Greyhound. She has never barked on her own.

Is there a dog that is quiet, (most large breeds are quiet) doesn't shed, (poodles and their spin offs -labordoodle, etc dont shed) doesn't drool (most smaller dogs dont drool) and wipes it's own ass? (If they have ass problems they need to see a vet.)

I've heard nothing but good things about Greyhounds.

My family had german shepherds all during my young years.

I'm surprised Miniature Pinschers aren't on that list...

So I need to find a small/large dog who doesn't have anal leakage.

She is eleven years old. We got her just before she turned four and she had just retired from racing. Retired greyhounds are great companions. They are quiet and very mild tempered. Most of the time you do not know she is even in the house. They don't eat a lot of food and they don't require constant care. We walk her four to six times a day and that keeps her satisfied. Our backyard is fenced and she likes to go out to run around for about 10 minutes, then it is time for an eight hour nap.

The only issue is that they generally have to be walked on a leash. If she gets outside on a freedom run she is gone.

They are great dogs.

Along with our Collies the wife has to have a lap dog, (which more often than not ends up on my lap).

IMHO, Peek-a-Poo's mix of Pekineses and Miniature Poodle is a great small breed dog.

They don't shed, they don't drool, they seldom bark, have very few health issues.

I know some people who have been rescuing/fostering racing greyhounds for years. They seem to be great dogs. Definitely kept on leashes around where I live. Lots of rabbits here. If they see one of those, all bets are off.

You mount moose. They can't get THAT big. :D

The only person big enough to mount the moose was The Great Canadian Snidely! He's left us though.

Yeah, my brother's Dane is usually quiet. If he barks, and you aren't use to him, he'll almost make you see Jesus.

Most of our dogs have been Collie's.

The article does say:

The Collie isn't exactly a silent breed - if he were, Lassie would never have been able to tell us that Timmy had fallen down the well! Still, this gentle and affectionate dog generally only speaks when he really has something to say. Given the appropriate amount of exercise, he shouldn't be a nuisance barker.

My brother's husky was practically mute unless you howled with her :D

Not really. Walk her around the block takes about ten minutes. The fun thing is that retired racers generally have absolutely zero interest in other dogs. If another dog walks past she won't even look in that direction, just keeps on walking. It's possible that she is more introverted than I am.

The retired racers usually are. If they didn't race, or their career was very short they tend to be a little more high strung.

Yes, I read that. I'm just surprised it made the list at all. They are talkers.

I'll vouch for St. Bernards on the list. We had one that literally went several years without barking. Our current guy might bark once every few days, like when they spot deer in the yard or there's a stranger at the door. Or, when he barks back at thunderclaps.

We're gonna have to leave Dals off that list.

Yeah, my mastiff never barked at people or other animals. But if she heard a noise and thought it might be someone trying to break in, or saw a shadow moving that wasn't connected to anything obvious she would issue a single loud bark... And that would rattle the windows

Odd. Mine are just the opposite. Never, ever, make a peep unless someone rings the doorbell. Had to tie a bell to the back door so they can ring it with their paws when they want to go out. We didn't even know my oldest one could bark until he was about three.

I guess every dog is different. The guy who wrote that article had clearly never met my buddy's Great Danes.

No dingos? No Basenji?

Those rarely bark, and they are not HUGE dogs like the ones listed either.

If I ever get another dog, will probably be a Basenji. :yesnod:

Our Akita will go weeks without barking. When he talks, we listen. But he will let you know when deer are in the neighborhood.

Cosmo doesn't bark. Occasionally he will 'talk' when he wants something.

Clara likes to hear herself bark and will do so at any opportunity.

We have a newf and she loves to talk. She also barks quite a bit outside.
Our pyrenees/bernese mix was pretty quiet, but he did protect his territory by barking. If you came too close, he took off. :leaving:
Our neighbors at the new place have 3 danes and a smaller mutt. We hear the danes bark (which travels very well in the woods, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF ). The mutt is the noisy one.

*snicker* That won't put a dent in a typical Boxer's energy level. We take Bruce out for romps in the field adjacent to our subdivision and run the ever lovin' stool outta' him until he collapses into a dead heap on the ground.

And he's still ready for Round 2 20 minutes later!

The only time he barks is when he spies another dog walking down the sidewalk out of the window or when someone rings the doorbell.

I started your video and our Border Collie is running back and forth down the hall looking for his buddy Janson who is the neighbors Husky he plays with.

They can get kinda rough with each other but always come out smelling each other butt.
