An Explanation

Recent events here at VBOT have compelled me to respond to the claim of several members that I am a “Worthless troll douchebag” and the instructions to “Please go fcuk yourself into a coma.” (Thanks, but I’ll pass)

I don’t recall how, why, or when Ms Gem and I started picking on each other in open threads, and I’m not sure it’s relevant at this point. As far as I was concerned, it was all in good fun. If she was offended in any way a simple PM would have put an end to the bantering. I never received one, so I assumed things were fine, and the ribbing continued from both of us. Clearly wrong. Sorry, RONG.

During the “Coffee” thread, I responded as I typically do. Nothing inflammatory, just an observation that I don’t care for coffee. Ms Gem decided to take a shot at me, and I responded as I typically do, albeit a little strong I’ll admit. Well, the vultures came out in force. Several members did point out that this behavior is typical of Ms. Gem and I, and there is really nothing behind the responses. However, I did feel somewhat bad, as I know Ms. Gem has had some personal challenges of late. I offered my apologies in the thread where she, and everyone else could see them. The silence was deafening.

Shortly after the thread went south, I received a PM from Ms. Gem telling me she “Felt bad” I was getting piled on. I mentioned to her on two separate occasions she could have stopped this in its tracks with one simple response in the thread. She chose not to for reasons that escape me.


This leads me to the speculation portion of my post. Why? Why would Ms Gem allow the attacks? Why the sudden turn of events? Why, what was OK 24 hours ago, suddenly not OK now? I have two theories. One; Ms Gem was caught up in the Thomas is a douchebag lynching and decided she was going to be outraged because after all, everyone else was. Number two; Ms Gem solicited the support of Mirrorshades and Kerrmudgeon via PM, to attack me in the thread. I have a hunch I know which scenario it was.

What confuses me is why Ms Gem would remain silent after several apologies on my part ? One in public, and twice in private. PM’s certainly do count, but if you truly want to offer up an olive branch, make it public. I’m sure her reasoning for allowing the lynching is valid, her motive baffles me.

I felt terrible for Ms. Gem when her son was ill. I can’t imagine what it would be like to almost lose your son. And to add insult to injury, Ms. Gem her self ended up in a coma a month later. That’s a full plate. I know several single mothers, (I married one) and I’m very sympathetic to the challenges they face. I decided to send her flowers while she was hospitalized, to show support, and let her know the VBOT people were thinking of her. And for my efforts, I was rewarded with a beat down. All because she couldn’t manage a simple response in a thread she created. No good deed goes unpunished I guess. Lesson learned.

I do want to take this opportunity to thank several of you who actually know what transpired here. A couple of you surprised me to be honest. I thought my liberal leanings had put me in your ignore column. Guess I was wrong. Sorry, RONG.

As far as Ms. Gem and I are concerned? I think that train has left the station. I wish her no ill will, even though she clearly allowed the flame war to continue, and from all indications, tossed gasoline on the fire.
