We had the little effers coming up on our porch too. Becka had the bright idea of storing a bag a cat food out there rather than in the garage. They came right up the steps, pushed the screen out of the spline and into the porch. We ended up having to put an old pan at the top of the steps with a rag soaked in amonia for 3 weeks to discourage them from coming back.

Bar-B-Q'd Raccoon
~ 4 - 6 lb. raccoon, cut into serving pieces
~ 1 cup red wine
~ 2 onions, sliced
~ 3 bay leaves
~ 1 tbsp salt
~ 1 tsp pepper
~ 3 cloves garlic, sliced
~ 2 cups of your favorite barbecue sauce
~ 1 tbsp paprika
Place the raccoon pieces in a large pan. Add the wine, onions, bay leaves, salt, pepper and garlic. Add enough water to cover the meat.
Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
After 1 hour, remove the meat and drain. Place the raccoon in a greased baking dish. Mix the barbecue sauce and paprika together and pour over the meat.
Cook at 325 degrees for 50 - 60 minutes.
Serve and Enjoy!

The little booger was eating the cat food. I usually pick it up after the cats have finished. I sat the plate with the leftover cat food on the porch railing and came inside.

Oh Nooooo! It was a little raccoon. I bet he brings his parents, siblings, cousins, etc.
Does the amonia hurt the kitties?

I fixed the screen and we put the rag soaked in amonia outside of the screen.
No problem with the cats.
I can guarantee you that he/she will be back if they associate food with the location and they will bring all their BFFs, etc. You will want to keep Turbo Kitty and any others inside for a while

I agree......and if you see a raccoon strolling around during the day......something is bad wrong, usually rabid.

The porch is not screened in. I brought TurboKittyLucy and KitKat inside because of the fireworks tonight, picked up the now empty cat food plates and made sure the garbage cart was secured.

It was dusk and overcast. He took off across the pasture and into the woods when I opened the door. We are prepared for battle if it comes back tonight.

He will be back. They learn extremely quickly but it takes a while for them to disassociate a food location. Wendy (wwomanC6 aka Squirell Girl) was who told me about the amonia rag. It will work but you may need to put it out there every day for a while to break them.
Of course if you dont have the patience for that...a .22WM works well too
