A guy who runs a wedding planning business with his wife approached me the other day to see if I would be interested in offering my barn as a wedding venue. He also said there was interest in it being used by square dance groups to hold dances. I asked him about $$ and he said he would get me $1000 per event. Thoughts anyone?

A friend rents her barn for events, I'll ask her what the rates are.

Check your homeowners policy.

Tell the guy in the business HE has to carry liability insurance in case of injury to a drunken guest.

Parking will chew the place up.

Get your lawyer involved or at least be sure you ask for proof of insurance so they cant come back on you if something bad happens.

A contract needs to be drawn up expressing any and all areas of responsibility. Contingency plans for weather related issues. (Muddy fields, cant park). Building damage, upgrades expected (or none for ambiance) power usage/availability, state and local expectations, (bathrooms or ADA requirements), etc., etc.

Get a lawyer involved.

From my friend in Maryland:

$5000 for the facility, tables and chairs.

That's a base price, anything else is extra.

so basically you can tell that wedding planner to go pound sand.

$1000 is super low.

We spent $2500 on a room for our reception.

I think the price might be relative, this isnt the wealthiest state.

I was thinking maybe about the lawyer, but now I will definately involve him. I was wondering about the damages/injuries/liability stuff. I was also thinking about creating an LLC for the farming part of my life. This venue thing might fall neatly under that LLC.

Check your PM's.
