Lead bar falls from sky, crashes through roof

No one reported injured

UPDATED 7:29 AM EDT Jun 27, 2013

(CNN) - The crashing, pulverizing sound of heavy metal invading a home can ruin a quiet weekend spent with the family.

It led some Seattle residents to call the police. But it wasn't a noise nuisance caused by hard rock music that they complained about.

The heavy metal was a bar of lead that plummeted from the sky Sunday, puncturing the roof of a Seattle home, police said.

The 3-pound chunk left a hole the size of a small shoe box, according to the Seattle police department.

Luckily, no one was reported injured; the metal apparently did not bang any heads.

The lead part had a serial number and two holes that would accommodate bolts. Two days after it dropped in for an unannounced visit, the family decided to call 911.

An officer responding to the call figured it had to have dropped off of a plane flying by overhead. Police are checking with aviation authorities.

It was either that, the officer said, "or a really big bird that had stolen a lead bar."

Falling metal piece crashes through roof of Seattle home

A Seattle family got a big surprise when a metal bar fell from the sky and crashed through the roof of their home in the South Park neighborhood.

The incident happened Sunday, but the family waited until Tuesday to call 911, Seattle police said on their blotter.

Officers photographed a metal piece and an 8-inch by 6-inch hole that the metal bar made in the family's roof and ceiling.

Several KING 5 viewers said it's a grinder "tooth," which can fly off a machine used to grind up wood debris or tree stumps.

An officer at the scene surmised the piece of metal may have fallen from an "aircraft or a really big bird that had stolen a lead bar."

Waited two days? :confused5:

To call 911.

911...what is your emengency?

A piece of metal fell through our roof?

Is anybody hurt?

No.

When did this happen?

Two days ago.

Let me get this straight, two days ago a piece of metal fell through your roof, there are no injuries and you are calling 911.

Maybe they had to put their grow-lights in storage and air the place out before inviting the authorities over.

But yeah, the emergency had long since passed (if there ever was one). No need for the 911 call at that point.

It could also be that the insurance company required a police report for the claim. :slap:

Well, no.

You need sharp edges to cut.

Here is a shot of a blade from a tree shredder.

Interesting, as that is way too small for the 3' diameter oak trees we have been cutting/shredding in this burb.....somehow they sold the trunk of my ~100' oak tree to a BBQ joint for smoking chips.....what I want to know is how in HELL they shredded THAT trunk......

NO, harmonica balancer gig off some freqey machine resonance thing, so they add weight to keep it in 'ball-lance'.......

and the bolts cum off from some vibration/motion thing, and so the weight flips the other way and is ejaculated......

:rofl::rofl::seasix:

Tried to do my best for a OD type description there, but OD remains SUpreme....

Never seen a part like that on a plane. Especially made of lead. Nothing on an aircraft is made of lead. Could have been cargo?

Or God fumbling in his workshop.

Ballast, sacrificial anode or a balancer for a flywheel.

:iagree:

It "flew" off of something on the ground.

It looks like a cleat off of a tractor drive like a Caterpillar or bobcat.

Had to been rotating pretty fast to get the height high enough to blow through a roof and sheetrock like that.....but the machine was vibrating like hell after THAT......:shots:
