It's baaaaaack! Remember: Grab a beer, and no Googling!

1. My bath has two taps and a plug hole. The cold tap on its own fills the bath in 18 minutes, the hot one in 15 minutes. The plug hole can drain the bath in 10 minutes with the taps off.

How long will the bath take to fill if I leave both taps on with the plug left out?

2. When a clock's reflection is 2.30, what time is it really?

http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww22/lspencer534/clock1_zpsa1d69051.gif

3. A friend of mine, Max, at about age 65 still likes to mow his own lawn with a gasoline push mower (not self-propelled). He's had the same mower for 20 years. About a year or so ago, he noticed that the mower was not getting very good gas mileage. The mower was using much more gas than it used to per cut of the lawn.

So Max took the lawn mower to the neighborhood small-engine repair shop. They replaced a spark plug and spark plug wire, cleaned the carburetor, and installed a new air filter.

After all the repairs, Max took the new lawn mower home. But he noticed that the gas mileage had not changed a bit. The engine and the lawn mower were in perfect working order. The lawn-mower service guys did nothing wrong, and there's nothing they overlooked. For the purpose of this puzzle assume that we live in a perfect world and that the mower is exactly like the day it was bought. And the grass isn't any thicker than it used to be.

Why is the gas mileage less?

4. Which number is the odd one out?

http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww22/lspencer534/newpuzzle_zps909c1e0f.jpg

5. Add together three numbers each time to score 40. Each number can be used as many times as you wish. How many different combinations are there?

5 10 15 20 25

assume tub is 90 gallons.

cold fills it in 18 min - 5 gpm
hot fills it in 15 min - 6 gpm
drains in 10 min - 9 gpm

net of 2 gpm fill rate, will fill in 45 min.

5. Add together three numbers each time to score 40. Each number can be used as many times as you wish. How many different combinations are there?

5 10 15 20 25

25 10 5
20 15 5
20 10 10

15 15 10

Another way to solve it:

In 24 hours:
the cold tap could fill 80 baths
the hot tap could fill 96 baths
the plug could drain 144 baths

Therefore, in 24 hours, we have 80 + 96 - 144 baths full = 32 baths.

Therefore each bath would take 45 minutes to fill.

[/url]

With the given flow rates, are they both from a common source? If so, will either pressure be reduced by the common flow from both fixtures being open?

What is the volume of the "bath"? How the **** do you expect me to give accurate numbers without knowing the volume of the "bath"?

Is this a real world question or are we talking hypothetical?

I can't deal with this kind of pressure on a Sunday.

Pics of the lady the "Bath" was filled for? I have a number, but I'm too lazy to look for the answer without pics. :bud:

There, there...it's going to be okay. I had pics of the lady in the bath (the freckled one), but I discarded them when the puzzle was over. Maybe next time I'll remember to keep them. They weren't anthing special; I only got up to 41.
