I got another email after about 2 weeks of silence from "Joe Blow"...
The Email
Your adds will be tagged as spam every time you place an add.. we are all happy to oblige you. Someday you will try honesty.. but I doubt it.
------
And the reply I sent..
You do what you got to do, Ill do what I got to do. I run an honest business and I have file folders filled with hundreds upon hundreds of names of Satisfied customers whom Ive helped over the years, some of which have driven here from as far away as Enterprise, Biloxi, and Panama City, just to use me..my record precedes me, and I make people happy, for less money, in less time, with a superior service. Obviously, you feel like I should not be posting my ads in the Sale section, and Ive admitted before...its not the section to be advertising in...I know that, you know that..its no big secret. However, people use my business, they love my service, and they don't care where they found me or that I was in the wrong section. This is my Livelihood, this is my lifes work, this is what pays the bills and puts food on the table, Im licensed, Im legal, im legit..Ive done everything I am supposed to do, in order to satisfy as many people as I can....never would have figured id ever have problems advertising.. Whats bad is, Im probably the only small engine shop in town that isnt out to screw my customers.

Some people are such failures in life that the only way they can feel good about themselves is to try and drag anyone else down.

If that came in an e-mail there should be a way to expand the header and find out who his service provider is. I've done that in the past to inform providers about what their customers are using their service for. You may not hear from him again for a few months but it's no permanant solution.
The IP address can be used to ping him and find out when he's online. There are parameters you can use which would may deny him access to the web. Not that I'd ever suggest such a thing... But you did ask :leaving:

Came in an anonymous Craigslist relay email..no way to track him that way..
What im thinking is, make an ad that is ghosted..and email him a link and ask him if he has seen my new ads...his IP will be the only one listed, ill hid a hit counter./IP logger in the ad itself. ill then have his IP address.
Question...

To mess with another mans job and income is pretty shitty! (unless he deserves it)
It sounds like the favor needs to be returned if you can figure out who it is.

Email him back and suggest meeting over coffee to discuss his feelings.
Something like this:
"I work very hard to run an honest, above board business and it always concerns me when someone thinks otherwise. Perhaps there is something I've missed, if so, I'd like to correct it. Would you be willing to meet over coffee to share your concerns so I can take action if needed?"
Then, when he shows up, beat his ass like ten dollar whore.

It's just something you'll have to deal with since you are knowingly breaking the rules/terms of service. Do you get notified when someone flags you?
There must be a way of writing an actual for sale ad that functions as a work advertisement.

Every time I put something up for sale, it sells that day, usually within a few hours...my stuff is top shelf and people know it.

So make the price higher than "normal" so it stays up longer.
Have two "levels" of products you sell.
One is more "premium" than another.
Like I said, advertising and marketing. :yesnod:
I already get top dollar for my stuff, im top of the market on most of what i sell, but my stuff is just so damn good, people flock to it. I only sell good shit because I want a history of not selling crap.
If you go higher ,or over market...you get flagged own by people who cant afford it, or they make assholery laden ads making fun and dissing your stuff..

Im working on getting a dozen or so lawn signs, put them up on major corners nearby, and maybe offer a deal to customers who live in subdivisions, or on a main road..10% off if I can put a sign up for a month...

"Bandit signs" are illegal in most areas. Check to make sure you aren't breaking a city or county ordinance. In the Houston area, we consider bandit signs as littering, a misdemeanor.

I see em all over town, never heard of anyone at all getting in crap over them. Biggest problem is yard sale assholes stealing them and using them for their shitty ass yard sales...

So report said people.
Justifying rule breaking behavior with more rule breaking behavior sounds like the PotUS and his group.
Didn't know you were an Obama fan. :D
Newsflash...I cant report them, im only 1 person, I can flag their assholery laden posts...but, there is no moderator or admin to remove them, or refute them, there is literally not a fuc*ing thing I can do...
:iagree: Yet they still get put up and anyone rarely gets in trouble for them.
Though there are some older folks who go around and pick them up. :funny:
When they appear in our subdivision, I pull them up, toss them in the back of the truck, then put them out with the trash.
Hey, I don't go to their house and dump trash. Why do they think it's OK to dump trash in my neighborhood? I also pull the advertising off of our mailbox cluster. Exceptions are always made for lost pets and garage sales, though.

Ask your best (most satisfied) customers to put your sign in their yard. If they DON'T agree to it, you can probably be pretty sure no one wants the signs put up.

Ive had people asking about wanting to put them up for a year now, people are so happy with my work, they want me to succeed and want to send me their friends and family equipment, there is a level of trust there.
Ive been getting emails from Australia, Germany, Canada and south america...from people who have seen my work online over at Mytractorforum.com, and want me to help them with their stuff. In the past 6 months ive gotten calls from at least 35 different states, from people looking for assistance...its unreal. I can honestly say, no one else locally is getting that kind of reach..lol

Going to with "rules are rules".
But it's ok to break them as long as you profit, right?
If the rules applied to everyone...id be okay with it, but when I see my ads going down and my competitors ads going up...it hurts my wallet.
What was that thread about left lane bandits?

Does not compute.
Here is how it works...I have an account, associated with a phone number.
When people flag my ads, it accumulates bad juju against my account...and the more this happens, the easier it is for your ads to be removed. If you have ever sold alot of stuff on CL for any period if time, you will have ALOT of ads removed because...if you are selling something for slightly less than 5 other people on there, they will all ding you for it. So over 3 years...its not hard for my ads to be flagged, literally 1-2 flags and its down.
These other people, make new accounts all the time using their kids phones, their parents phones, spouses phones, so...they never accumulate alot of bad juju...so its difficult for me, even with help, to get an ad removed. I went on FB and asked like 10 friends ot flag an ad and after 10 spams hits, it was still live.
I really ****ing hate hall monitors who go around pulling up signs out of peoples yards. Its not your yard, so **** off and go polish your whistle and sash...
I don't pull signs out of people's yards, I pull them down when they are on the city/county right of way. In the case of our subdivision, a-holes put their signs up on the public ROW right by the entrances to our subdivision. That's the equivalent of dumping a bag of trash there.

Let me ask you a question. Assuming you are on the National No Call list, when a telephone solicitor calls you to sell you carpet cleaning/alarm service/whatever, his first contact with you was an illegal phone call. So the guy trying to sell you has already broken the law....does that engender confidence in their cleaning/alarm/whatever service? It doesn't for me.
Again, bandit signs are illegal here and considered trash. Things may be different in your area.

Honestly, when i get those calls, i listen to see if im interested, if im not, I hang up. I know its just some underpaid, underappreciated worker, in a cube, with a phone and a list of numbers to get through so they can go home in their 300 dollar 83 corrolla to their 500 sq/ft apartment and eat ramen noodles watching basic cable...
I dont hate on people for making a living, as long as they dont impede upon me, making a living..but that, is..business.
