anyone else think this??
dang, doing the dishes really is starting to make my lower back hurt.
-Yes, if the wife cooks, then I clean, and vice-versa
anyway, would it be a crazy request to ask for cabinets that were about 6 inches taller to be installed so the counters and sinks were higher?

You're gonna be so hunchback you will need a snorkel and mask just to do the dishes.

TOTALLY AGREE!
I hate doing the dishes for that exact reason. :yesnod:

I think anyone over about 6'0 will agree. Guys and girls under won't.
Being 6'1, i gotta agree as well though.

At 6'-5", all counters are too low for me. But they have to be "standard height" for resale purposes I guess.

What further complicates the issue is the edge of the sink typically gets wet and one tends to try and not want to touch the sink, else risk getting clothing wet, further amplifying the bending over.

did Knooger move in with you - and in reality - you're just too scared to bend over that far ?
Yes, I'd be much happier if my kitchen counters were 4" higher.

Don't be such a slob. :slap:

Custom cabinets can be any size. :DAB:
You can set them on risers to make the counters higher.

Not his fault. He slipped on the wet floor.
maybe he needs a super absorbent apron? something with ruffles and flowers? :fruit:

If you make them higher, then I'll have to have carry around a portable step stool.......just like yesterday working on the truck. I had to stand on a 5gallon bucket to get good leverage on that truck.
Counters in the kitchen and bathrooms are all 2" higher than standard. Everything else seems low now.

Marcus what are you 5'7?

I'm not even tall and this has always been one of my pet peeves. Why the he'll is a bathroom sink 28" high?
My damn junk is higher than that.

When don't you have to stand on a 5 gallon bucket? :confused5:

When I had my house built I asked the builder if he could make the counters about 5 in taller. He said sure but I don't reccommend it as you may have a problem when and if you resell.I went with the standard height and really wish I had them made taller..............:)

We used taller cabinets when we redid the bathrooms (counter height 36") and the kitchen is about the same, I believe. I'm 6'1" and having to lean over is not an issue. The only downside is we need step stools in the bathrooms because the kids can't reach the sink until they're about 6 or 7.

My kitchen and master bath counters are 36" and the guest bath is 32". What is standard?

It could be worse. The woman we bought our house from was only about 4'1".
She had the cooktop and the vent hood in the kitchen installed 6" lower than the countertops.
We replaced the cooktop with a normal oven/range and the vent hood with another microwave with a vent in it. Now we have two ovens and two microwaves. :yesnod:

yeah but I'm the dishwasher in my house. :(
Honestly, the wife and I split that task. She uses the dishwasher and I prefer to wash them by hand and put them on the counter to dry. As long as folks don't leave stuff out to harden, hand washing goes pretty quickly.

I'm not a fan of dish washers becasue you have to rinse them off or preclean the dishes and pots etc before you put them in. If i'm going to go through the trouble of doing that i might as well get a sponge and soap and hand wash them. After all it is only the four of us.
We use our washer once a week on the weekend to clean the cooktop and down draft as well as the dishes but that's it really except for when we have company over and have a larger amount of plates, pots, etc to do.

You bet. When I remodeled my kitchen and bathroom they both got the tall-boy treatment. Midgets can use a step stool (or just stay away). The garage workbench and my reloading desk are also sized for normal people. I even got the tall toilet :D
Only thing I regret is getting that deep kitchen sink. Too much bending over involved with doing the dishes.

My kitchen counters are 36", the center island is a few inches higher than that.
Standard is built for the average height person (about 6" shorter than me ). Always hated that about work counters. Not sure what it is exactly but it works out to be halfway between my knee and crotch. Maybe 32"?

OLD kitchen contractor here, done a few hundred and a few hundred bath rooms also....feels like it anyway....:issues::sadangel:
36 is standard kitchen height, and one time some years ago up in DC there was this super TALL chick, my height at 6'5" or better, she had a cooking show, and was a PRO CHEF.....well she didn't care so much about her home kitchen, but wanted new counter tops and a topper built for her cabinets, and another layer of drawers.....adding about 8" to the top height.....
baths vary a bit, it's the kid bit thing.....stools/buckets/falling/using sinks, etc....not soo much of a problem in the kitchen, but watch it in the baths, typically tile with hard surfaces/toilets/tubs/tile that shit HURTS.....
Linda cooks she is only 5'6" so standard is cool with her....
I rinse and dishwasher sanitizes/cleans.....
those double sinks, side by side 22x33 talk about a PIA....can't soak a damn thing in them, cooking pans no fit flat to soak, NEED a bucket at least the size of a 22x25 standard sink basin....7.5" deep is plenty, honestly how high you NEED stack SO many cook pots you need something 12" deep like some idiots think necessary???? My sis had the best sink ever in Shipensburg Pa. one huge bucket in a 22x33 sink with drain/disposer in one corner....you could soak cylinder heads, intakes, exhausts, and oil pans in it and then run them through the dishwasher......:issues::rofl::dance:
