I have a Tag Heuer and it seems that every 2 yrs. the battery dies. It is waterproof. I've had it replaced every time at Tourneau. They told me there is a gasket that has to be replaced to make it waterproof. The only time it is near water is if I am washing my hands or caught in the rain...not like I'm going to go scuba diving or something with it.

Can you get the tool to remove the back, gasket, and battery online ?

Just seems too pricey to replace that often.

You can get an adjustable spanner from Harbor Freight for about $5.00 (recommended)

I have a collection of watches and change my own batteries,I bought an adjustable tool at Harbour Freight. you can buy the batteries at any drug store. And the gasket does not have to be replaced unless it is torn or stretched to the point it won;t seat.

use a rubber ball. Some times the back is too tight though.

Baller problems. :D

Batteries usually cost more than the watches I own.

Actually, I use my phone for the time.

I have a $20 kit from amazon and it works fine. I have like 20 watches so it saves me time and money to just do it myself. One of my gaskets has gotten stretched though. I wonder if you can order them online somewhere.

If you know the case size you can order them on line but it's just easier to take it to a watch shop for $4.

Up here the dealers do it for the cost of the battery. And, after a gasket is compressed once it's no longer safe to use a second time. Even if you aren't submersing it in water, it is still subject to condensation from the air. I wouldn't risk it with a Tag.

Not so.

If installed properly, it will be as watertight as it left the factory. I've changed the battery on my dive watch at least 3 times now with no issues.

Use RTV silicone instead of those re-dick-u-less gaskets

FYI

I was doing some shopping at a high-end establishment (Wal-Mart) today. I cruised by the watch dept. I asked if they sold that tool or replaced batteries. She said they are not allowed to open the back of the watch. But, they have the tool, and allow you to use it to replace the battery in-store.
